After 14 hours of intense battle, Adrian Mateos (cover image) emerged victorious from a field of 64 players to claim the PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo €50K Single-Day High Roller and pocketed a handsome €908,000 in prize money.

This was Mateos’ third-best result after his 2015 Main Event win right here at EPT Grand Final Monet Carlo for €1,082,000 followed by his win at the 2013 WSOP Europe Main Event for €1,000,000.

A total of 52 players first entered the event while 12 re-entries were added to take the total to 64 players that made up a total prize pool of €3,104,000.

A lot of big names like Daniel Negreanu, Isaac Haxton, John Juanda and Charlie Carrel were eliminated before the final table was set.

With the top nine places getting paid, the unlucky player to fall out in tenth place was Mustapha Kanit.

Sergio Aido (ninth), Mike Watson (eighth) and Ramin Hajiyev (seventh) departed from the final table shortly thereafter with Steve O’Dwyer next to go out in sixth place.

The chips were unevenly distributed after the tournament reached four-handed play with the elimination of Nick Petrangelo in fifth place.

Fedor Holz, with his medium stack eventually bowed out in fourth place. Not too long thereafter, the heads-up between Mateos and Dvoress was set after Erik Seidel ran out of luck to be eliminated at third place.

Mateos started the heads-up proceedings with a 5-to-1 advantage against Dvoress. Dvoress won some pots but not enough to put Mateos under real pressure. On the last hand, Dvoress got it in with king-four suited against jack-eight only to see Mateos flop an eight. With no help on the turn and river Mateos was crowned the champion!
