The French Riviera was ablaze with pros as the 2017 PokerStars Championship presented by Monte Carlo Casino took off with its €10,300 Opening No-Limit Hold’em event, featuring the ‘shot clock’. Last man standing was German high roller specialist Ole Schemion (cover image), who defeated the 110 entries to collect his ninth PokerStars trophy and the lion’s share of €274,750 from the €1,067,000 prize pool. Schemion immediately jumped into the next event – the €100K Super High Roller.

Schemion has had a good run at Monte Carlo, especially last year when he won two events – the €100,000 Super High Roller for approximately €1.6 Million and the €50,000 Super High Roller for €857,241, after a heads up deal.

This time around, Schemion faced a tough final table that had pros such as Steve O’Dwyer, German high roller Koray Aldemir, and 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess.

Final Table Recap

Schemion on the other hand started out as the second smallest stack but began consolidating immediately. The hand against Riess saw him improve and he kept chipping up.

Heads up Schemion faced Murad Akhundov, a pro with several deep runs right here at Monte carlo. Akhundov was in no mood to let Schemion walk away easily and put up a tough fight.

Akhundov doubled up on a big bet on a flop of clubs and after Schemion called was all in for an offsuit four turn. Schemion paused as long as the timer allowed, and finally called with for a straight draw. Unfortunately, Akhundov held a flush with .

Nevertheless, action opened with Schemion on the next pot and he called with pocket queens. Akhundov tabled king-eight. The board gave Schemion a set to double up and he never let go of the lead after that, winning the event within an hour.
