With the year entering its final three months, action on the global poker felts has seen many international series have culminated to crown winners. Continuing the excitement on the live felts was RunGood Poker Series’ (RGPS) second stop to Bossier City where more than $254,700 of total prize money was awarded across various tournaments. Headlining the series was Gary Burks who conquered a tough field of 378 entrants in the $575 Main Event to win the top prize of $41,519.

While the RGPS has now moved on to Council Bluffs, Iowa, the schedule for the US Poker Open, slated to be hosted at the PokerGO studio in the Aria Resort and Casino, Las Vegas has been announced. A number of high-roller regulars are expected to gun in the 10-event series that will run from February 13-23, 2019.

Meanwhile, the biggest event on the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC)’s international roster, the WSOPC Sydney is also coming up soon, and will be held at The Star Poker Room from November 27 to December 17.

Gary Burks Wins RunGood Poker Series Main Event For $41,519

The RunGood Poker Series $575 Main Event, held in Bossier City, attracted 378 runners and was taken down by Gary Burks for the first-place prize money of $41,519, along with a pair of boots from Boot Factory Outlet, and a custom belt buckle from Montana Silversmiths.

Burks has had a successful run at the series where he made Day 2 of the $180 Deepstack event, but narrowly missed finishing in the money. He entered Day 2 of the Main Event with a stack of 102,000 and reached the final table with 555,000 in the bag.

He outlasted the likes of Mark Burford, Dustin Stewart, Randi Stott and Natalie Schorr on the final table and faced Pejman Niyati in the heads-up confrontation.

Heads-up play began with Niyati in the lead holding 5,400,000 chips to Burks’s 2,160,000. Over the course of play, Burk chipped up and eventually overtook the lead from Niyati.

On the final hand, wilst the talk of a chop was ongoing, Burk interrupted the conversation and said, “I’ll tell you what, let’s play this one–I haven’t looked yet. Let’s play this one, and then we’ll talk about it.”

Niyati took a look at his hole cards and called for 100,000 from the button and Burks moved all-in. Niyati tabled pocket sevens and Burk turned over card 3card 3. While Burk flopped a pair of jacks, Niyati failed to improve his hand and was eventually relegated to the runner-up title, as Burk claimed the top honours.

When asked what he plans to do next, the 42-year veteran of the oil industry said he’ll probably just put it in the bank and go back to business as usual. “Although, I might buy a new tractor for the farm or a new bow. Bow season is about to start,” he said.

Director of poker operations for ARIA, Sean McCormack elaborated on the ten-event series. “The U.S. Poker Open, and the trio of high roller majors including Super High Roller Bowl and Poker Masters that comprise the High Roller Triple Crown, further solidifies ARIA as the epicenter of high-stakes poker action.”

The Main Event will kick off on February 22 and spicing up the roster are the two $10,000 and $25,000 buy-in short deck events that will be hosted on February 16 and 20 respectively.

“We will continue to bring our guests the most player-friendly poker events in the industry with our Poker Central partnership firmly in place through the foundation of the PokerGO Studio,” McCormack added.

Part of the schedule is the four $10K events and four $25K events, one $50K event and the $100,000 Main Event, along with several NLHE and PLO events.

Meanwhile, VP of content at Poker Central, Sam Simmons expressed happiness at continuing a successful partnership with Aria. “The turnout across each phase of the High Roller Triple Crown continues to impress and, with the next U.S. Poker Open champion receiving a cash award of $100,000, we’re expecting that trend to continue,” Simmons said.

“The entire series will serve as a fitting kickoff to a year of even more world-class live events and original programming that PokerGO subscribers will love.”

Scheduled to run from November 27 to December 17, the series will host 15 tournaments in 21 days. Having attracted main event fields of more than 1,000 players in both 2016 and 2017, this year’s WSOP Circuit Sydney $2,200 buy-in Main Event will kick off on December 7.

WSOP Director Gregory Cochon said, “We were hopeful WSOP Sydney would be one of the largest International Circuit stops, and The Star’s team has done a tremendous job in the promotion and operations of the event. All the players we have discussed the event with have really enjoyed the experience. The event is now one of the most anticipated Circuit stops of the year.”

Cochon further stated that the decision to return to Sydney in 2018 was simple, “The Star’s Poker Room is the best poker room in Australia, and that’s why it was natural to partner with them. It’s an honor for the WSOP to have such a partner.”

The winners of the 15 tournaments on this year’s WSOP Circuit Sydney schedule will each receive a prized WSOP gold ring. Two players – the Main Event winner and the Casino Champion – will also win a seat into the 2018 WSOP Global Casino Championship in the United States, an official WSOP gold bracelet event that boasts a guaranteed minimum US$1 Million prize pool.

“Our main goal is to give a chance to every player around the world to participate to the WSOP,”Cochon said. “It’s not easy for all the international players to come to Las Vegas during the summer, so I think it’s our role to bring them the WSOP.”
