The Asian Poker Tour (APT) Championships 2018 closed out another successful edition yesterday at the Resorts World Manila with the culmination of the Championships Event. The event drew in exact 100 entries, generating a ₱9,700,000 prize pool that paid out the top 17 places.
Japan`s Iori Yogo (cover image) dominated a star-studded final table that featured the likes of Main Event champion Lester Edoc, Kosei Ichinose and Henrik Tollefsen, to claim the title along with the hefty ₱2,402,500 first place prize.
Wrapping up along with the series were the last of the side event and India’s Kunal Patni managed a deep run in the ₱5,500 Deep Stack Hyper Turbo event, finishing 14th for ₱9,700 (~₹12,109).
The first elimination of the final table came quickly as short-stacked Ichiyo Niwa hit the rail in eighth place followed by another short-stack i.e. Singapore’s Chua Shan Hui, who was down to just four big blinds and bowed out in seventh place.
A short while later, Taiwan’s Teng Wei Yang moved all-in with his short stack holding and Iori Yogo called. Lester Edoc moved all-in over the top with and that was enough to get Yogo to fold his hand. No surprises on the board meant Yang was out in sixth place.
Soon thereafter, Kosei Ichinose was booted after he first doubled up Henrik Tollefsen and then lost the remainder of his chips to Yogo.
Taiwanese Fu Bang Huang exited in fourth place and with that, the three-handed round began with all survivors former APT champions i.e. the latest Main Event champion Lester Edoc, APT Japan Main Event winner Iori Yogo and two-time APT Main Event champion Henrik Tollefsen.
The one to take the bullet first was Norway`s Henrik Tollefsen who jammed with and was snap-called by Yogo who tabled . In the race to the title, the board supported Yogo, who hit a straight to grab the huge pot. Tollefsen was down to crumps after the loss and busted in the very next hand to set up the heads-up match between Edoc and Yogo, with the former starting with 3.5 Million in chips against the latters 1.5 Million.
Yogo started off as the underdog but doubled up on the seventh hand of heads-up and the duo continued trading chips for a while before Edoc claimed the lead back again. Yogo battled back in style and won a number of huge to finally claim the title. The last hand saw the flop open . Yogo bet and, Edoc check-raised. Yogo shoved with for top pair and a flush draw and Edoc called with for two pairs. The turn and the river gave Yogo higher two pairs and that was enough to win him the title.
