APT Vietnam: Devesh Thapar Among The Top Stacks After Day 1B in Championships Event

The Championships Event at the 2018 APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Championships that is presently underway at the Pro Poker Club began on July 18 for a buy-in of VND 33,000,000 (₹99,252). A total of 213 runners joined the event via the two starting flights – Day 1A and 1B.

Day 1A saw 74 entrants joining the field and after the pre-determined 10 levels were played, only 25 runners made Day 2. Nguyen Van Canh bagged the chip lead with 353,600 in chips, while the top five chip counts of Day 1A also included other notables like Vaness Kim (334,400), Linh Tran (316,500), Tetsuya Tsuchikawa (307,600) and Phong Lam (261,100).

Day 1B attracted a field of 139 participants (107 unique entries and 32 re-entries), creating a prize pool of VND 6,198,300,000 (₹1.86 Crores). By the end of the day’s play, only 70 runners made it through the day with Paul Hong (267,700) leading the way followed closely by Le Ngoc Khanh (259,800), Thanh Ho (193,900), Oeystien W. B. Nordli (193,500) and Lim Yo Hwan (189,400).

Young Gun Devesh Thapar was also seen in action. Thapar had previously finished 13th in the Main Event VND 6 Billion GTD Championship, missing the final table by a whisker and pocketed VND 115,410,000 (~₹3.40 Lakhs) in prize money. He entered the Championships Event on Day 1B and ended the day among the top stacks with 156,700 in his bag.

94 players will return to compete for the top prize of VND 1,304,030,000 (~₹39.22 Lakhs) on Day 2. With a total of 8 levels to be played on Day 2 and blinds starting from 1,000/2,000 with an ante of 300, only those who survive till level 18 will make it through to Day 3.
