The Aussie Millions 2018 crowned its eighth champion in Ben Lamb (cover image) who shipped Event #9: $25,000 Challenge and claimed the ANTON championship ring along with A$647,114 in prize money.

Lamb, the two-time WSOP Main Event final table finisher, who boasts of over $8.3 million in cashes agreed to a heads-up deal with Jan-Eric Schwippert, one of many young Germans who have made a name for themselves with $4.2 million in tournament cashes. The deal saw the duo take home the lion’s portion of the A$2,736,000 prize pool before flipping blind for the victory. Lamb won the flip and posed for the winner pictures.

Post his win, Lamb said, “Every time you win it’s fun, but six-handed tournaments are something that I really enjoy. I only play 15 tournaments a year. I enjoy them, but sometimes I think cash is more lucrative most of the time. I don’t think I’m going to change my tournament schedule too much … but then again it was a lot of fun, so maybe I’ll try and add a few more in.”

The event witnessed a starting field of 114 out of which only 14 were paid.

Once the bubble burst, the floodgates of eliminations opened with Stefan Huber (14th place), Yury Zinkevich (13th place) and Kazuhiko Yotsushika (12th place) all running out of chips a few minutes apart from each other.

Next to fall were, Claas Segebrecht (10th place) and the two three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winners namely Michael Gathy and Brian Yoon, who bowed out in tenth and ninth place respectively.

Rory Young was eliminated next in seventh place to set up the unofficial final table with Schwippert and Lamb starting with the top stacks.

Final Table Recap

The final table started with six players and Roger Teska was the first to bust in sixth place after he shoved with his king-nine suited on a nine-high flop only to lose the hand to Jan-Eric Schwippert’pocket tens.

Next to go was Jack Salter in fifth place. Salter is third on England’s all-time money list, and even won a ring at the Aussie Millions in 2014 in the A$5,000 No Limit Hold’em Six Max Event. He has already picked up three runner-up finishes at this year’s Aussie Millions.

Kitty Kuo, who entered Day 2 in the chip lead, exited the final table in fourth place. The hand in question saw Schwippert moving all in with queen-five and Kuo called with ace-nine. Schwippert rivered a three-of-a-kind to end Kuo’s dream run in the event.

Wayne Yap was the next one out in third place after he four-bet shoved king-queen and Lamb called with pocket kings and held on to take down the pot on the ten-high board. With that the heads-up between Lamb and Schwippert began.

The duo quickly agreed to a deal after checking the possible numbers and decided to flip blind for the ANTON championship ring. Lamb was dealt and Scwippert trailed with . The board ran and Lamb’s queen-high hand sealed the deal and he took down the title along with the championship ring.
