Things are not looking bright for the sixth casino vessel in the coastal state of Goa. The Bombay High Court (HC) at Goa on October 10 rejected Golden Globe Hotel Private Limited`s (GGHPL) plea seeking directions to the state government for allotting a jetty to MV Lucky Seven on its return to Goa after repairs.

On the matter the HC observed,“Can’t give an advance pass after seeing the way it got stranded at Miramar.”

The division bench headed by Justice G S Patel seemed in no mood to even entertain the request by the petitioner but granted an extension of one week for completing the survey of the vessel.

For the past three months, the vessel has been grounded off as all attempts to tow it away from Miramar beach had failed. Recently, on October 6, the vessel was finally towed away and then anchored at Verem bay.

The High Court stated that it won’t issue an ‘advance pass’ to the vessel in response to senior counsel Salman Khurshid’s plea seeking directions to the state government to give an undertaking that the vessel would be allowed a passage and a jetty after its dry-docking process in Jaigad (Maharashtra) gets over.

After the sixth casino vessel MV Lucky Seven got stuck in a sandbar near Miramar beach, the court had directed the petitioner to obtain a certificate from the shipyard where it is being repaired to confirm that the vessel is sea worthy. The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for December 11.

Khurshid spoke to media and said the issue of grounding of the vessel is now over. He said, “We have indicated that it would be moving out within a week for repairs at Jaigad. Whatever inspections need to be done to make it absolutely certain that it is sea worthy would be carried out. It is only then that the vessel will be brought back.”

Khurshid added that the court has not disposed of the petition, and that they would return with their request on the next date of hearing.
