DPT Aug, 2016: Double Celebrations For Tarun Goyal Who Wins 10K Kickoff For ₹6.35 Lakhs & Signs Sponsorship Deal With Adda52, Rohit Tiwari Ships 60K Highroller

The second edition of this year’s Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) presented by Adda52.com began on August 25 with the first live event of the series, the 10K Kickoff No Limit Hold’em, followed by the 60K Highroller. It was cause for double celebration for Tarun Goyal, who won the Kickoff event for ₹6.35 Lakhs, as he was felicitated the next day during the 60K Highroller event by Adda Pro Amit Jain and inducted as a member of the Adda52 Pro Team.

Meanwhile the 2-day 60K Highroller attracted an unprecedented 171 entries and was taken down by Rohit Tiwari for a huge payday of ₹27.70 Lakhs.

Currently, the 30K Main Event has just completed Day 1 and leading the 53 survivors is Sukhinder Singh with 275,400 chips.

Held at the Deltin Royale Poker Lounge, the series had large crowds in attendance, with all kinds of players revealing just how hungry the poker playing fraternity is for such professional events. Players will have one more event – the 15K Bounty follow this one later tonight.

 

10K Kick Off (1 Re-entry)

With an impressive 256 entries, the collected prize pool of ₹25.60 Lakhs easily crushed the guaranteed ₹10 Lakhs allowing the top 25 finishers make a min-cash of ₹20,000.

Players got a starting stack of 10,000 at starting blinds of 25/50 and levels lasting 25 minutes. Starting at 7.pm several notables could be seen in action including, Adda52 Pros Kunal Patni and Madan Kumar, Spartan Team Pro Sangeeth Mohan, Vikram Kumar, Rajat Sharma, Sumit Sapra, Jasven Saigal, Clawin D’Souza, as well as Raghav Bansal, Sanjay Taneja and Abhisek Panda.

Somehow most of the media-known players were eliminated and only a bunch of not-yet-familiar names remained towards the end.

At the last edition in January 2016, Raghav Bansal had won the DPT Main Event for ₹30.6 Lakhs, however he bubbled the 10K Kickoff event this time at 26th place.

After the elimination of Wilson Yomso at 10th place for ₹47,000 a final table of nine was ready with the following chip counts –

Rushil Mitra was the first to exit, busted by Vaibhav Sharma at ninth place for ₹59,000, with more players hitting the rails shortly.

By the time Manikanta Kona was railed at fourth place, Tarun Goyal had grabbed a chip lead of 1.35 million. Tarun inched closer to the title by first eliminating Nayan Kumar at third place. The hand saw the two players all-in preflop.

The flop of gave Nayan the lead, but the turn and the river gave Tarun the pot. Nayan made a third place finish for ₹2.85 Lakhs.

Heads up began with Tarun Goyal leading 3 to 1 against Prashant (Praz) Correa. Finally at 8.00 am the final hand found Praz all-in on the button, with Tarun immediately making the call.

The board brought forth and Tarun was declared champion. Prashant made a runner-up finish for ₹4 Lakhs.

The IT professional-turned-entrepreneur Tarun later admitted, “I play live very less and so had difficulty keeping track of stack sizes sometimes….did better in later stages and in the end made some good calls as well as reads which became the deciding factor. I’m feeling very good after this win and feeling confident for the next events like High Roller and Main Event.

60K Highroller

The richest event on the schedule i.e. 60K Highroller drew a whopping 171 entries creating a prize pool of ₹1.02 crores more than double the announced guarantee of ₹40 lakhs. The top 18 finishers made the money, with the min-cash being worth ₹1,03,000.

Finally, Rohit Tiwari claimed the title for a massive payday of 2,770,000, with Y J Kim making a runner-up finish for ₹17,45,000.

Day 1 saw Prashant Tiwari leading 50 survivors, with several known names in contention, such as Raghav Bansal (175,500), Rajeev Kanjani (89,500), Abhishek Panda (82,500), Phani Ramineni (65,500) and Sumit Sapra (57,500) among others.

It was furious action of eliminations at Day 2 and ultimately a final table was found.

After Lawrence Melvin exited in sixth place, Rohit emerged and took over. He first busted Raghav Bansal at fifth place for ₹6,65,000.

The board sent out giving Rohit the pot.

Rohit Tiwari then went on to eliminate Manpreet Chadha and Keshav Chada at fourth and third place respectively.

Heads up lasted all of 30 minutes and the final hand saw Rohit with against Kim’s . Rohit was crowned champion as the board ran . Y J Kim collected ₹17.45 Lakhs for the second place finish.

30K Main Event – Day 1

The Main Event saw 235 hopefuls sign on and several hours later just 53 players made the cut to reach Day 2. Sukhinder Singh with 275,400 will be leading the above on Day 2 today while Ananth Kumar with 175,000 is at second place.

Samay Parikh (135,000), Siddarth Singhvi (78,500), Aditya Sushant (40,600) and Anil Gulati (24,400) are some of the known names in the fray for Day 2.
