DPT February 2018: Alok Birewar Ships Adda52 ₹65K High Roller For ₹17.74 Lakhs; Gokul Krishna on Top After Day 1B of Main Event

The February 2018 edition of the popular Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) is well underway onboard India’s largest floating casino Deltin Royale, Goa and has already crowned two winners. The opening event of the series i.e. ₹15K Deep Dive attracted 180 entries and was won by Vivek Singh for ₹6.57 lakhs. The second winner emerged yesterday in Alok Birewar (cover image) who took down the highest buy-in event of the series, Adda52 ₹65K High Roller. The event attracted an impressive 100 runners of which, 27 made it to the final day.

Sumit Sapra was leading the survivors at the end of Day 1 but once the last cards were dealt, Alok Birewar took top honors and the title for an impressive ₹17.74 Lakhs in prize money.

Running alongside the final day of the High Roller was the second entry-flight of the ₹35K Main Event that attracted 203 entries, which along with the 90 entries from Day 1A, took the total field size to 293. At the end of play it was Gokul Krishna who topped the 59 survivors with a stack of 212,800. He is the overall chip leader coming into Day 2 today and has a good lead over Day 1A chip leader Gagandeep Malik who will return with 178,800 in chips. The Main Event featured a re-entry format that allowed played who were eliminated on the first flight to re-enter on Day 1B. Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni was among the numerous players who took advantage of a second bullet yesterday but could not make it through to Day 2.

The action today will be centered around Day 2 of the ₹35k Main Event that kicks off at 3 pm with 86 survivors from both the opening flights coming together for the first time. The evening lineup features the two side events – ₹20k Pot Limit Omaha and ₹20k Bounty NLH.

 

Adda52 65K High Roller Day 2

Day 2 play resumed at 2pm with the 27 remaining players returning back to the felts with the primary objective of making it in the money where the top 11 players would cash.

Early eliminations saw Sandeep Valecha, Young Gun Ashish Munot, Sunil Mundhra, Vinay SK, Akshay Shah and Anik Ajmera, all falling short of the money line.

Manoj Pentakota, a former DPT ₹60K High Roller champion from February, 2017 made a deep run but fell agonizingly close to the money at 13th place.

The bubble boy tag though fell on Rajat Jain who went up against Vaibhav Sharma in an all-in preflop pot. Jain had pocket sevens while Sharma tabled king-jack, the latter flopped three-of-a-kind kings to eliminate Jain in 12th place. Jain wasn’t that unfortunate though as the remaining players had already agreed to a bubble protection deal. ₹20,000 each was taken from the top two places and ₹10,000 was deducted from the third and fourth payouts. In total, Jain took home ₹60,000 for his 12th place finish.

Some other eliminations along the way to the final table were Shambhu Mandal (11th place for ₹2,06,000) and PokerBaazi pro Vikram Kumar (10th place for ₹2,06,000). On the final table bubble, Kumar shoved with against Kapil Arora’s . The board ran giving Arora two pairs eliminating Kumar at 10th place.

Final Table Recap

Alok Birewar put up his A-game all throughout and his onslaught began in the very first hand of play where Birewar with ten-eight busted Mayank Agarwal`s (9th place) ace-queen as the former made two pairs on the board.

The next elimination was Jaydeep Dawer who fell to ‘First Women Achievers Award’ winner Muskan Sethi. The hand in question saw Dawer moving all-in with and Sethi called with . The board ran giving Sethi a flush, busting Dawer in eighth place.

Next up, the eventual winner Birewar flopped a set in a hand to eliminate Mikhail in seventh place.

The two remaining lady players, Babita Agarwal and Muskan Sethi followed Mikhail to the rail in sixth and fifth place respectively. In the hand that saw Sethi’s elimination, she tabled while Kapil Arora held . The board ran giving both the players a top pair but, Sethi lost to Arora’s better kicker and busted.

Incidentally, Arora’s elimination came shortly thereafter and he followed Sethi out of the final table in fourth place. It was Nikhil Jain who axed Arora as the former made a straight with against the latter’s on the board .

Vaibhav Sharma started the final table as the chip leader but his dream run ended in third place paving way for the heads-up battle between Birewar and Jain.

The final hand of the table saw Jain announcing all-in with while Birewar called tabling . The board ran giving Birewar two pairs, the title and a well-deserved ₹17.74 Lakhs payday.

35K Main Event Day 1B

Day 1B saw a number of big names returning to fire another bullet including Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni and by the end of the day, the total entry count reached 203.

Fresh entries at the event included the likes of Aditya Sushant, Manoj Pentakota, Dhaval Mudgal, Deepak Bothra, Danish Sheikh, Kunal Bhatia, Sumit Sapra, and Rajesh Rajpopat among many more.

Akshay Nasa was the first elimination of the day and was followed by Sumanth Kumar, Manju Sablok, and Bharath Jayaprakash.

Adda52 Team pro Kunal Patni who was returning on a second bullet failed to make much headway and hit the rails at the hands of Anik Ajmera. On his last hand of the event, Patni shoved with and Ajmera called with . Ajmer hit a full boat on the board and took down the pot eliminating Patni in the process.

Day 1B wrapped up with the eliminations of Anubhav Adlakha, Kanishak Kapoor, Abhishek Goindi, Sanjay Taneja and Anil Adiani.

A total of 86 players will be coming back for Day 2 action today at 3pm to play down to a champion.
