DPT February 2018: Dainik Mehta Takes Down ₹35K Main Event For ₹23.19 Lakhs

After registering an impressive 100 entries in the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller where Vivek Singh emerged victorious, the action at Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) moved over to the weekend special ₹35K Main Event. Once again, a strong 293-player field ensured some exciting poker action with Dainik Mehta (cover image) taking top honors for a well-deserved ₹23.19 lakhs payday.

The best thing about Goa tournaments is the coming together of the close poker fraternity and once again several big names made way to the offshore poker room onboard Deltin Royale to take the shot at DPT glory.

Among the many players in action were Adda52 Team pro Kunal Patni, WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant, Rajnish Kumar, Manoj Pentakota, Dhaval Mudgal, Deepak Bothra, Danish Shaikh, Kunal Bhatia, Sumit Sapra, Rajesh Rajpopat, Kiran Kumar and Ramesh Thotapalli among many others.

Along with the Main Event, the series found two more champions. The ₹20K Bounty NLH was taken down by Ashish Ahuja for ₹3.32 lakhs while the ₹20K Pot Limit Omaha was taken down by Nikhil Jain for ₹2.49 lakhs.

 

35K Main Event – Day 2

Day 2 of the event got underway at 2 p.m. yesterday. The opening flights’ action trimmed the field down to 87 players with Gokul Krishna leading the way with 212,800 in chips. Close behind him was Aditya Sushant who bagged 210,600 with Vishal Kapoor rounding up the top three stacks with 185,200 in chips.

Some other notables who made it through the opening flights were Gagandeep Malik (178,800), Sumit Sapra (163,100), Rajesh Rajpopat (158,800), and Zarvan Tumboli (38,700).

The first few eliminations of the day were Rupal Bansal, Zarvan Tumboli, Shiv Kumar, Alok Birewar, Priyank Gupta, Ankit Wadhawa, Vishal Kapoor, Bhuvan Bansal and Prateek Kumar.

The infamous bubble boy tag fell upon Ganesh Kompella who exited in 32nd place. Sunny Grrewal hit a nut flush on the board to eliminate Kompella and get the remaining players in the money.

Notables who missed the final table but, cashed in the event included Shambhu Mandal (11th place for ₹1,52,800), Rajesh Rajpopat (12th place for ₹1,52,800), Gagandeep Malik (13th place for ₹1,23,200), Young Gun Devesh Thapar (15th place for ₹1,23,200), Ashish Ahuja (17th place for ₹1,03,500), Gokul Krishna (22nd place for ₹88,700), Bharat Agarwalla (24th place for ₹78,800), Rajnish Kumar (25th place for ₹78,800), and Naveen Kumar (31st place for ₹73,900).

The star studded nine-handed final table commenced after Sunny Grrewal was relegated to the rails at tenth place for ₹1,87,300.

Final Table Recap

Short-stacked Asad Nadeem was the first one out and fell at the hands of Arjun Arora. Nadeem moved all-in with and Arora called with . The community cards opened and Arora took down the pot with a high card eliminating Nadeem from the event in ninth place.

Next to fall was Asif Asin who took eighth place when his pocket sixes came up against the eventual champion Mehta’s ace-jack. The ace high board gave Mehta top pair, eliminating Asin in the process.

Manish Jain in seventh place and Anil Gulati in sixth followed Asin to the rail.

WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant was taken out of contention in fifth place. In a three-way preflop all-in pot, Sushant, Arora and Abhijeet Shetty, all got their stacks in the middle. Both Arora and Shetty tabled ace-king while Sushant showed ace-ten. The board ran splitting the pot between Arora and Shetty while Sushant was sent packing in fifth place.

Shetty was showed the door in fourth place with Avinash Tauro following him out in third place setting up the heads-up match between Dainik Mehta and Arjun Arora.

The intense heads up battle between Mehta and Arora ended with the former finally emerging victorious. The last hand of the event saw both players moving all in with Mehta’s up against Arora’s . The board ran crowning Mehta the new DPT champion!
