Abdelaouhab Zizi Wins MPN Poker Tour Morocco For $33,220

The 2018 MPN Poker Tour Morocco MAD 6,000 Main Event attracted a total of 340 runners to create a MAD 1,813,900 prize pool. Once the final hand was dealt, Casablanca resident Abdelaouhab Zizi defeated fellow countrymen Fadhil Farag to pocket the MAD 375,000 ($33,220) following a heads-up deal.

Zizi, a gynecologist by profession, has been winning tournaments for years, and attends live events from Deauville to Las Vegas.

Final Table Recap

Day 3 chip leader Mehdi Hsissen seemed intent on single-handedly outgunning the opposition and was responsible for three of the first four final table bustouts.

The first elimination of the nine-handed table was Mario Linno followed by England’s Paul Johnson who hit the rail in eighth place.

The table soon became four handed after Frederik Foss (seventh place), Antti Halme (sixth place) and Mehdi Hsissen (fifth place), all went out in quick succession.

Dutchman Mateusz Moolhuizen and Ali Mechiche were then unable to withstand the pressure from Fadhil Farag and eventual champion Zizi, and both players were relegated to the rails soon to set the scene for the heads-up battle.

The businessman (Farag) was ahead in the start facing off the Casablancan gynecologist, but the chip advantage didn’t last long as Zizi edged his way ahead. In typical fashion Zizi’s held up against the of Farag which pretty much sealed the deal. A few hands later and it was all over as Zizi was crowned the champion.

Tobias Peters Wins WPTDeepStacks Player of The Year Race

The World Poker Tour (WPT) recently announced the 2017 WPTDeepStacks Europe Player of the Year award winner on January 11 with Tobias Peters taking the honors. He joins WPTDeepStacks North America winner Rex Clinkscales, who received his player of the year award in December. Rightly so as both players showed off their ability to crush the competition stop after stop.

The WPTDeepStacks Europe circuit consisted of eight stops across six countries in 2017, and Peters cashed four times making three final tables on his journey to be the best for the mid-stakes tour’s inaugural European season.

Peters received €15,000 worth of buy-ins to WPT Main Tour events and a €5,000 WPTDeepStacks Europe sponsorship package.

Peters started the season by finishing fourth in the WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam €1,500 Main Event in May 2017, earning €19,710. He then finished second in the WPTDeepStacks Valkenburg €1,100 Main Event in October for a score of €39,895. The following month, in November, Peters finished 33rd in the WPTDeepStacks Brussels €1,200 Main Event for €2,705. To end the year, Peters reached another WPTDeepStacks final table when he placed fifth in the €1,200 Main Event in Deauville to bank €22,366. It was that last result in the PMU.fr WPTDeepStacks Deauville Main Event that saw Peters overtake Omar Lakhdari in the race, and Peters didn’t give up the lead for the remainder of the season.

The email offered a yearlong membership discount for Galfond’s poker training site customers and included a free $100 to Run It Once Poker, even though the site is not even up and running yet.

A 2 + 2 forum member posted, “I got an email earlier today for RIO offering a year long membership discount. What caught my eye though at the bottom of the email it says ‘Free $100 at DraftBoard.com or Run It Once Poker’. How soon is this actually coming to fruition?”

Galfond’s online poker site is also currently looking for people to join their team in Malta, with positions like Operations Team Leader (Poker/Game Integrity) and Customer Service Generalist up for grabs.

Last year in September, Galfond launched a new daily fantasy sports site called Draftboard with Dan Quinn helming the project as CEO.
