The world’s largest online poker site – PokerStars has been eyeing entry in India for some time now with speculations starting way back in November 2016, when Rafi Ashkenazi, CEO, of The Stars Group (formerly known as Amaya, Inc) hinted on the company`s plans of launching an India-only site.

The hype surrounding this impending launch had reaching dizzing heights since with one key question – when is PokerStars coming to India?

After several delays, that question has finally been answered today with the new PokerStars.in website prominently announcing that PokerStars India will be launching on April 17.

To facilitate its entry in India, PokerStars has tied up with Indian lottery conglomerate Sugal & Damani backed Sachiko Gaming Pvt. Ltd.

The timing of this announcement couldn`t have been better, with the sites brand ambassador in India – Aditya Agarwal making a trailblazing runner-up finish this past Sunday at the APPT Macau 2018 Main Event for a career-best ₹1.57 Crores.

The team pro was stoked at the announcement and said, “I have been waiting for years for this, couldn’t be more excited.”

In an official announcement to all PokerStars players residing in India, the company has clarified that w.e.f April 16 all Indian players will no longer be allowed to play on the international PokerStars.com site. The players however, will be able to login and request a withdrawal of the existing balance along with claiming Star Rewards and Bonuses.

In another important update, exiting Indian players on PokerStars will not be migrated automatically to the new PokerStars.in website and each player will have to individually register on the new site.

PokerStars has also already clarified on the Indian website that, “PokerStars.IN and all associated offers are for residents of India only.”

The news of this launch despite the several positives has one big downside.
