The $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship at the ongoing 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) was a blockbuster hit as a strong field of 95 entrants competed against each other to win the top prize of $259,670. At the end, it was former WSOP bracelet winner Brian Rast (cover image) who emerged victorious and added another bracelet to his name.

Nevertheless, despite Rast’s victory, the big attraction at the event was 84-year old poker veteran Doyle Brunson, who made a comeback to WSOP after a 5-year hiatus and has announced retirement from poker after the summer. Brunson finished in sixth place for $43,963.

Rast, who is ranked 11th in the United States All Time Money List, has cashed in the WSOP 33 times. He has total live earnings of $21,129,935, with $5,586,355 coming through WSOP.

Following his win, Rast tweeted –

Final Day Recap

Day 3 saw 11 players return to the event and soon Galen Hall (11th place for $18,955), Todd Brunson (10th place for $18,955) and Ray Dehkharghani (9th place for $18,955) were eliminated, forming the eight-player final table.

The eight-handed final table included Brian Rast, John Hennigan, Dario Sammartino, Mike Wattel, Farzad Bonyadi, James Alexander, Shawn Sheikhan and Doyle Brunson, with Wattel as the chip leader with 1,153,500, followed by Rast with 1,024,000 and Sheikhan with 728,000.

Final Table Recap

The first of the eight to go was Farzad Bonyadi. James Alexander moved all-in from under the gun causing everyone to fold except Bonyadi who called and was all-in. Both players drew one. Bonyadi showed 9x8x5x2x against Alexander’s 8x7x4x3x. But Bonyadi drew 4x whilst Alexander drew 6x that sent the former packing in eighth place.

Less than 10 minutes later, John Hennigan was ousted by Rast. With only 28,000 left in his stack, Hennigan went all-in from under the gun against Rast who raised from the button. Hennigan drew one card from the deck as Rast patted to show 10x9x8x4x2x. Hennigan had 10x8x6x2x but drew Qx, busting him in seventh place.

10-time WSOP bracelet winner Doyle Brunson was chasing his 11th bracelet but was denied by James Alexander. Brunson had gone all-in from small blind which was called by the initial raiser Alexander from the button. With both players requesting cards, Brunson turned over 8x6x3x2x against Alexander’s 10x9x6x4x and was in the lead but was beat when he drew Kx while Alexander had 2x. Brunson’s historic run ended in sixth place.

Shawn Sheikhan departed in fifth place when he went head-to-head against Dario Sammartino. Sammartino 3-bet from big blind which was called by Sheikhan from the small blind. Both players drew one. When Sammartino moved all-in, Sheikhan called with his remaining chips. Ultimately, Sheikhan’s Kx8x6x5x2x could not beat Sammartino’s 10x9x4x3x2x.

James Alexander was next to go. He moved all-in from big blind against Rast and decided to draw two. Alexander rolled over 6x3x2x while Rast showed 10x8x6x4x2x. The two cards he drew were 6x and Ax, that spelled his expulsion from the table in fourth place.

With only three players remaining, Dario Sammartino was the next to bust. When Rast shoved all-in from small blind, Sammartino checked his cards and called. Rast patted Jx9x8x6x2x while Sammartino had 9x5x4x3x. Sammartino drew 3x which gave him a pair and sent him to the rails.

Sammartino’s elimination set up the heads-up play between former WSOP bracelet winners Mike Wattel and Rast.

In the final hand, Rast raised, Wattel jammed, the former tanked for 90 seconds and finally decided to call as both players patted. Rast showed 9x8x7x6x2x against Wattel’s 10x7x6x4x2x and just like that won his fourth WSOP gold bracelet.
