Played over a period of three days, Event #64: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship of the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) had attracted a field of 141 runners. Championing over them all was Dan Matsuzuki (cover image), who won his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet and took home a career-best $364,387 in prize money.

When asked about winning his maiden WSOP bracelet, Matsuzuki said, “It still hasn’t hit me really. I wasn’t even going to play this event, but my buddy convinced me. ‘Come on; Let’s gamble’ – those were his exact words. He took a piece of me and we registered on Day 2 and I just got a good run of cards.”

Out of the 15 players that came back on the final day, the notables who were eliminated included Jack Duong (10th for $27,233), Andrew Kelsall (11th for $22,365), Mike Watson (12th for $22,365) and Jesse Martin (13th for $18,897).

Tom Koral (9th for $27,233) bubbled the official final table.

Final Table Recap

Following a series of small pots, Joseph Michael was left short-stacked early on. He went all-in on the third street against Chris Vitch and both players tabled their cards. Michael’s // were no match against Vitch’s //, resulting in his eighth place elimination.

It did not take long before Bryce Yockey followed Michael’s lead. After Dan Matsuzuki completed, Yockey raised and Matsuzuki re-raised. Thereafter both players moved all-in. Matsuzkui’s //Xx had a pair of queens which sent Yockey with //Xx packing in seventh place.

A few hands after the dinner break brought about Jerry Wong‘s elimination in sixth place with Vitch doing the damage.

Ken Aldridge then went on to eliminate Daham Wang in fifth place to bring the play down to four players. Wang opened, Aldridge called and then bet on fourth street. Wang raised all in with //Xx and Aldridge called with //Xx. Wang drew on the seventh street while Aldridge flipped to better his hand to two pairs.

The chip lead fluctuated between Chris Vitch and Matsuzuki for some time but in the end the latter won out as Vitch was busted in fourth place. His Xx Xx//Xx were overpowered by Matsuzuki’s Xx Xx//Xx and just like that Vitch`s back-to-back dream was crushed.

Down to three-handed play, Ken Aldridge went head-to-head with Scott Bohlman and moved all-in on fifth street. Bohlman called and both players tabled their hands. Bohlman hit a straight with //, Aldridge’s // could not keep up and he was eliminated in third place.

The heads-up play continued for a long time with a second “courtesy level” being added to ensure that a winner was declared. On the final hand of the event, Matsuzuki brought in and Scott Bohlman called. The latter bet on fourth street and was met by a raise from Matsuzuki. Bohlman called all-in with //Xx and Matsuzuki tabled //Xx. The former hit a straight on the fifth while the latter picked up trip sevens on the sixth. The seventh street brought Bohlman while Matsuzuki drew and rivered a fullhouse to win the pot and the bracelet.
