Heading towards the business end of the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP), fans, followers and enthusiasts have all been dazzled, enticed, shocked and captivated by the gripping action at this year’s tournament series. From maiden bracelet wins, premature celebrations, drunken shenanigans to dramatic entrances, we have seen it all! But the action is not over yet. As the WSOP Main Event began the first part of its Day 2 proceedings and the opening day of Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em has concluded, Team India continues to keep us glued to the action.

The $10,000 NLHE MAIN EVENT – World Championship has been a ripper of an event so far. Attracting a player pool of 7,874 entrants, only 4,611 players remain at the end of Day 2AB. A combined field of Day 1A and 1B participants started the day’s play, with around 1,235 runners proceeding to Day 3.

However, Indian challengers have not given up the fight to win the sought-after rewards at the Main Event. Six members of Team India, Aditya Sushant, Rohan Dhawan, Raghav Bansal, Dharmesh Patel, Kavin Shah and Jaswinder ‘Bobbe’ Suri, were seen in action. But it was a tough field of play for the Indian camp as only two challengers, Shah (88,000) and Patel (67,100) bagged chips to make it past Day 2AB.

Nevertheless, the 19 Indian survivors of Day 1C will be seen in action on Day 2C in just a few hours. With Paawan Bansal (150,700), Jaideep Sajwan (91,100), Yudhishter Jaswal (76,300), Nikita Luther (71,000), Apoorva Goel (69,400), Shashank Jain (69,300), Kartik Ved (66,500), Aditya Agarwal (60,300), Akash Malik (54,000), Amit Jain (53,000), Sriharsha Doddapaneni (45,200), Muskan Sethi (43,800), Nipun Java (34,800), Vikram Kumar (28,700), Jasven Saigal (12,800) and Abhinav Iyer (8,600) along with the 9stacks qualifiers Vivek Rughani (111,800), Mayank Jaggi (79,500) and Nishant Sharma (63,200) still in the game, Team India`s WSOP campaign is well on track!

On the other hand, Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em opened amid 1,351 entries and only 227 among them bagged chips at the end of Day 1.From the Indian contingent we saw WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant (105,900), Raghav Bansal (45,900) and Indian-origin Shyam Srinivasan (78,000) making it through to Day 2 while John Pannucci (235,400) is the chip leader amid the survivors who will resume play soon.

Day 2AB of Event #65: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em MAIN EVENT – World Championship began with 2,460 runners returning to the felts but only about 1,235 survived the days play. The survivors of Day 1A and 1B, 659 and 1,801 players respectively, came together on Day 2AB to further their journey towards the most prestigious title in poker.

Representing the Indian contingent were Aditya Sushant, Rohan Dhawan, Raghav Bansal, Dharmesh Patel, Kavin Shah and Jaswinder ‘Bobbe’ Suri. Sadly, it was almost a whitewash day for the team as only two players from the starting six made it through to Day 3.

Sushant had a tough time from the get go. He picked up trips on the flop in a multiway showdown but ended up folding on the turn against Jake Schindler. Before the last level of the day was played, he had managed to build up his stack to 40,000. With only three hands of play left, Sushant busted when his Ace-King lost out to Ace-Jack with the board spiking a jack. Dhawan, Suri and Bansal too could not make it past Day 2AB.

Shah had consolidated to a commendable stack of 315,000 but unfortunately lost a huge pot when his pocket rockets were cracked by King-Ten. However, both Shah and Patel will both come back on Day 3 with stacks of 88,000 and 67,100 respectively.

The leaderboard for Day 2AB found a chip leader in Shawn Daniels who bagged a massive 532,500 in chips. Trailing him are Eric Liebeler (531,000) and Samuel Bernabeu (524,000).

Several notable were also seen in action who made the cut for Day 3 including poker power couple Alex Foxen (238,900) and Kristen Bicknell (202,800), along with Brian Altman (476,500), Kelly Minkin (380,800), Christopher Kruk (370,500), Ben Yu (311,000) and Chris Hunichen (307,100).

Many poker giants fell along the way including two-time ‘November Niner’ Antoine Saout, former WSOP Main Event champions Joe Hachem and Ryan Riess, as well as Erik Seidel, Tony Dunst, Gaelle Baumann and Jeremy Ausmus.

With the Day 1C runners yet to play in Day 2C, the field is still wide open with the top honours still up for grabs!

Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em

Right as a number of Indians were spotted playing at the 2018 WSOP Main Event, there were a good few Indian challengers in Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em as well. The tournament opened with a grand attendance of 1,351 participants and headlining Team India’s presence was Aditya Sushant who jumped in on the action after busting the Main Event. Sushant had a stellar run and narrowly missed the list of the top 10 stacks at the end of play. With 105,900 in his bag, Sushant is placed 11th in the leaderboard and will be coming back for Day 2 tomorrow!

Apart from Sushant, Raghav Bansal, Kunal Patni, and Indian origin player, Shyam Srinivasan also entered the event. Both Bansal, with a stack of 45,900 and Srinivasan who holds 78,000 chips have made it through to the next day. However, Patni’s run ended on Day 1.

The huge entry field has led to a $323,472 prize pool and eliminations came as quick and surprising as was the pace of the event that has in the very first day narrowed down to 227 players. While John Pannucci is leading the way with a stack of 235,400, following him are Akin Tuna (169,900), Kenny Hallaert (155,400) and Kfir Nahum (151,400).

Other players who have advanced to Day 2 include Mark Radoja (54,000), Mikhail Semin (51,500), Matt Glantz (41,300), Victor Ramdin (23,500), Jimmy Guerrero (23,300) and Richard Dubini (22,400). Gaelle Baumann (14,900) and Dutch Boyd (11,800).

Evidently many top pros who made an unceremoniously early exit from the Main Event decided to jump into the $1,500 NLHE as the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Tony Dunst, Allyn Shulman, Jonathan Little, Oliver Busquet and Joe McKeehen were all seen in action. Their run however didn’t last long with all of them busting the event.

Only 203 players will make it to the money, so the money bubble is expected to burst early on Day 2.
