It isn’t only about winning but also taking home a slice of life-long memory of the glamour and the heat that is generated on the felts in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2018 which pulls thousands to the rich and resplendent poker rooms of Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. And as the WSOP entered its eighth day this summer, we have much to report about.

Event #13 Big Blind Ante No Limit Hold ‘em and Event #14 No Limit 2-7 Low Ball Draw have begun while the last two starting flights of Event# 7, Colossus $565 NLHE, Flight 1E and Flight 1F concluded. Team India’s Paawan Bansal is the sole challenger who has made it to Day 2 of the event with a stack of 93,000.

In the meantime, entertaining and intense grinding action took place in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 Or Better Championship and the $1,500 Dealers Choice 6-Handed. In the former, Day 3 of the play is now over and six players have survived through to Day 3. In the latter, Day 1 concluded, leaving 120 players to resume play on Day 2. The event allows one re-entry.

Event #7: Colossus $565 NLHE

The final starting flight of the seventh event of WSOP, Colossus $565 NLHE drew 2,855 entries of which 133 bagged chips after eighteen levels of 30 minutes each.

Broutee Benshamin is leading the Day 1F survivors with a stack of 450,000. Some of the top-stack holders include WSOP Circuit ring champion Valentin Vornicu with 308,000 chips and WSOP bracelet winner David Bach. Other notables who have advanced to Day 2 include TK Miles, Daniel Weinman, Matt Stout, Matt Affleck and Kathy Liebert.

Many Indians could be spotted on the poker felts and two players, Paawan Bansal and Raghav Bansal registered for Flight 1F. While Paawan Bansal’s chip count stood at 93,000 and he has made it to Day 2 of the event, Raghav Bansal cashed the event in 257th place for $1,118 (₹75,051).

Meanwhile in the penultimate starting flight of the event – Flight 1E, a total of 3,202 entrants registered for the event, making it the largest flight so far.

Indian player, Shrikant Dravid cashed the event for $1,027 (₹68,942) for 320th place.The flight concluded with Kurt Jewell emerging the chip leader with 474,000, Mike Commiso is second with 390,000 in chips while Tyler Patterson is third in chips with 238.000. 127 players were able to bag their chips for Day 2, and notables include Ryan Laplante, Barry Greenstein and Simon Deadman.

Event #9: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 Or Better Championship

The Day 3 of the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 Or Better Championship continued through the day and a total of six players have survived and will resume battle on the final Day 4.

A total 169 entrants registered on Day 1, and on Day 2 including the re-entries creating a prize pool of $1,588,600. WSOP has announced a first-place cash prize of $417,921 and all final table players will be assured a minimum $31,977 payday.

Players who entered late on Day 2 include Phil Ivey, Iraj Parvizi, Chris Ferguson, Cary Katz, Steven Wolansky and Matthew Ashton and Mike Gorodinsky.

Among the top six, Eli Elezra is leading the way with 2,700,000 in chips. Adam Coats has the second largest stack with 1,820,000 and will be joined by the likes of Paul Volpe, Kyle Miaso, Viacheslav Zhukov and Dustin Dirksen.

Event #12: $1,500 Dealers Choice 6-Handed

It was a conglomeration of poker players with different game preferences coming together to battle on one felt, over 20 different poker variants. Witnessing the play between 406 initial entries, the Day 1 of WSOP’s twelfth event, $1,500 Dealers Choice 6-Handed concluded on Tuesday. 120 players have survived the Day 1 play and will resume the play today.

As is the format of the event, every player got to choose his or her favorite game across ten 60-minute levels. The field has generated a prize pool to the tune of $548,100 and sixty-one spots will be paid a minimum $2,263. The first-place finisher will take home the bracelet and $129,882 while the runners up will bag $80,256.

John Hennigan is leading the way currently, having won a big Pot-Limit Omaha pot just as the evening was drawing to a close. He has 89,800 chips in all, followed by Andrew Zhigalov with 85,275 chips and Xunen Zheng with 69,950 chips

Others who remain in the battle are Luke Saltus, Joey Couden, Jeff Lisandro, Craig Chait, David Funkhouser, Shirley Rosario, Chris Vitch and Layne Flack.

There were a several prominent poker champs including David Buch, Phil Hellmuth, Jeff Madsen, Daniel Negreanu, Frank Kassela, Shaun Deeb and Shaun Buchanan who couldn’t make it to Day 2. The Day 2 play will see ten more levels take place and the final day is scheduled for the tomorrow.
