First Player Down! Wilson Yomso Eliminated in 6th Place
• Level 6: 600 -1200,1200 Ante

And just like that, we have our first exit from Match 1 of the National Poker Champion showdown! It’s heartbreak for Arunachal Pradesh’s Wilson Yomso. After battling a short stack for a while, his run has just ended in sixth place. That, unfortunately, means he’ll be starting with -10 points on the leaderboard.

Here’s the hand that did it: Sreekanth Narayan kicked things off with a raise to 2,500 from the hijack, holding . Wilson Yomso, down to his last 9,500 chips, looked down at in the cutoff and made his move, pushing all in.

Now, here’s a little twist – over in the small blind, Goonjan Mall folded . He had the exact same hand as Narayan! Without knowing one of his Aces and one of his nines were dead in Mall’s hand, Narayan made the call to put Yomso at risk.

Heads-up to the board it went. The dealer spread on the flop – a disaster for Yomso as Narayan spiked his Ace right away. The on the turn changed nothing. Needing a Queen to survive, Yomso instead saw the land on the river. That river card gave Narayan two pair (Aces and Eights), more than enough to beat Yomso’s pocket Queens.

So, Wilson Yomso becomes the first player knocked out of this match, finishing in sixth place and taking that -10 point hit. Sreekanth Narayan scoops the pot, adding nicely to his stack and grabbing some key early momentum.
