Sriharsha Doddapaneni Leads the Final 13 to Day 2

Day 1 of the Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) 2020 edition ₹10K Kick Off is now in the books. The event registered a massive 286 entries and after 20 levels of 25-minutes each, only 13 players remain in the hunt for the top prize of ₹6.18 Lakhs. Former WPT champion, Sriharsha Doddapaneni leads the pack with a stack of 830,000.

Not only is Doddapaneni the frontrunner to win the title, but he is also a good distance ahead of the next big stack, Bikash Rai (721,000). PokerBaazi team’s Chirag Sodha (396,000) rounds out the top three stacks for Day 2.

Other notables who have secured their berth for Day 2 are Nishant Sharma (335,000), Anuj Yadav (264,000), Phanindra Akkina (261,000), PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja (208,000) and PokerBaazi CEO Navkiran Singh (185,000). Read the complete report here.

While we missed the eliminations of Stalin (15th for ₹35,500) and Shivam Jain (16th for ₹30,400), we made it in time to catch the final elimination of Day 1.

Rajat Sharma opened to 30K from the button and Bikash Rai, who was in the small blind, raised to 70K. Sharma shoved with , while Rai called with . The rundown and no help to Sharma, eliminating him in 14th place worth ₹35,500 in prize money.

Sriharsha Doddapaneni Claims Chip Lead

On a flop of , Bikash Rai led out for 40K. Doddapaneni called to see the turn. Rai bet 70K and Doddapaneni called again. The river was the and Rai fired another bet of 120K. Doddapaneni made it 320K. Following the eliminations of Dipika Agarwal in 18th place (₹30,400) and Vikram Kumar in 19th place (₹26,600), it was Viren Kapoor’s turn to hit the rail in 17th place for ₹30,400.

First up, we saw Rahul Venkateswaran hit the rail. He shoved for 39K from the hijack and Saurav Chatterjee reshoved over the top from the button. Rajat Sharma called for 114K from the small blind.

The community cards saw Sharma claim the pot. While Chatterjee was crippled, it was Venkateswaran who had to vacate his seat.

However, Chatterjee could not hang around much longer and was soon eliminated by Navkiran Singh.

Just a few minutes left to Level 15 and the field lost another player. Action had folded to Zook who 3-bet to 6K from the button. Sriharsha Doddapaneni called from the small blind and Vinod Hegde moved all-in with . Doddapaneni tabled . The dealer fanned out and Doddapaneni who had paired his queen on the flop knocked Hegde out with a higher two-pair.

With the flop open , Saurav Chatterjee bet to 17K from small blind and J. Raju raised to 39K. Chatterjee ahved for 70.5K and Raju called with his remaining stack, risking his tournament life.

Early into Level 15 we witnessed a preflop all-in showdown between Amol Mehta and Archit Khandelwal. Mehta was the first to act and jammed from the button for 70K. Khandelwal moved all his chips in as well from the big blind.

Lungi Gets Bluffed

Vikram ‘Lungi’ Kumar opened with 6K and Vaibhav Shah 3-bet to 12K. Kumar called to see the flop . Shah bet big and Lungi asked, “You have Ace-King?” On getting no response from Shah, he asked again, “Ace-King? I have King-Queen.” Lungi pondered for a while and eventually threw away his cards, face-up, revealing that he indeed had King-Queen. He then asked permission to see Shah cards. Upon Shah’s consent, Kumar turned over his opponent’s cards to see !

Alnoor Punjani Eliminates Naveen Sagar

Naveen Sagar’s was up against Alnoor Punjani’s . The board blanked for Sagar, forcing him to exit the competition.

J. Raju Finds a Double Up; PokerGuru Ambassador Ankit Wadhawan Crippled

When we reached the table both PokerGuru Ambassador Ankit Wadhawan and J. Raju had tabled their cards.

Himanshu Arora Next One to Hit the Rail

There have been two quick eliminations on one table one after the other. The next hand after Gokul Krishna hit the rail, we had Himanshu Arora falling out! Arora moved all-in from middle position with and once again it was Anuj Yadav who made the call, this time in the big blind with . The board ran [ getting Arora the pot. He is now one of the chip leaders in the tournament with a massive stack of 235K.

A Double Up for Gautam Rohilla

Minutes before the third break of the night, Gautam Rohilla scored a huge double-up. Rohilla had jammed preflop with and was called by Vikas Rai who tabled . The board panned out and Rohilla’s turned two-pair was good enough for him to collect the pot. Incidentally there was a bit of contention over the hand since Rohilla didn’t count his stack before moving all-in and there was a mix-up of chips. The issue was quickly resolved and Rohilla told us later that he was holding eight big blinds.

Lungi Getting Ready For a Deep Run

In a preflop all-in clash it was Vikram Kumar’s up against Vishal Madan’s . Madan hit the nuts on the flop but Kumar caught lightning in a bottle with the turn card opening the and the river got Kumar the pot even as Madan hit the rail.

PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit Ray Out

Anyone wearing a PokerGuru hoodie heading out the tournament floor always catches our attention and this time it was PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit Ray who was looking like he was ready to call it a day. His pocket kings apparently lost out to Phanindra Akkina’s Ace-Queen.

Sriharsha Doddapaneni Eliminates Kshitij Kucheria

Kshitij Kucheria has just been eliminated by Sriharsha Doddapaneni. Doddapaneni had opened from the UTG and Kucheria jammed for 29K. Doddapaneni called, tabling versus Kucheria’s . Doddapaneni hit a set on the rundown to dominate Kucheria’s rivered two-pair.

PokerGuru Ambassador Nadeem Basha Secures a Huge Pot

Kshitij Kucheria open-shoved for 10 big blinds and PokerGuru Amabassador nadeem Basha shoved on top for 27K. Bhanu Prakash joined the action and called from small blind.

Yogendra Rajta Penalized

A lot has happened on the first day of the BPT 2020 edition and adding to the drama was Yogendra Rajta shenanigans that resulted in him getting a two round penalty. Rajta, who was visibly inebriated, was not stacking his chips. Floor was called and Rajta received a one round penalty. It did not have much of an impact on the man and following quite a bit of heated arguments, the Tournament Director was compelled to give him another round of penalty. He was also made to sit out until his penalty was completed.

Nisha Sareen Bags a Big Pot

An exiting round of play saw PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot move all-in with and Rohit Tawde reshoved all-in over the top holding . Nisha Sareen who was in the big blind decided to blind-called all-in with . The gave Sareen a full house on the flop. Munot also hit a pair of tens to rake in the side pot, while Tawde was sent to the rail.

Archit Khandelwal & Chirag Sodha Spin Up

The play has been intense this level. Over on one of the tables, the action opened with the cutoff who raised to 2K on which PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit Ray made it 8K. Archit Khandelwal then shoved from the small blind for 34K, evoking folds from the cutoff and Ray, and bringing a spin-up for Khandelwal.

Two hands later, Phanindra Akkina opened the button for 2.5K and was called by big blind Chirag Sodha. The flop of was checked around and so was the turn. After the river, Sodha led out 3.5K and Akkina called. Sodha showed and Akkina mucked his cards.

Comedy of Errors!

It what was most likely the most controversial hand of the tournament so far we saw a two-way pot play out between Raghavendra Hada and Sourav Chatterjee. We got to the action after Chatterjee had moved all-in with action pending on Hada. Hada “called” and flipped open the . Here is when the drama started. The dealer apparently heard that he had folded and starting to pull Hada’s cards to muck them. Chatterjee in the meantime claimed to have heard that Hada folded and was already collecting the chips while on the verge of mucking his hand. Hada obviously started protesting which led to the floor being called. Even the other players on the table including PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot asserted that Hada had said: “Call”. There was a long deliberation that lasted the better part of the level before the tournament director ruled that Chaterjee and Hada both hands are live.

Prerit Bias Knocked Out

A 3-way pot saw Prerit Bias moving all-in from UTG for 4,500 and picked up two callers, namely, Vinod Hedge in middle position and an unknown player in the small blind. The flop opened and Hedge led out for 5,500 – enough to get the small blind to fold. The cards were tabled with Hedge showing and Bias . The turn and river did help Bias but not enough to escape elimination.

Kick Off Event Smashes Guarantee!

Following a short 20-minute dinner break, the late registrations were closed and the final numbers have come in. The series opener Kick Off event has logged in 286 entries, smashing its advertised guarantee to collect ₹26 Lakhs in the prize pool. The tournament comfortably surpassed its predecessor which had registered 257 entries in the previous edition and also had a steeper buy-in of ₹15,000.

Navkiran Singh (101,500), Pankaj Bhardwaj (88,500) and Vikas Rai (80,500) are among the top chip counts.

PokerBaazi also made an exiting announcement at the start of Level 9. A Bollywood-like tralier revealed that India’s most trusted online poker site was launching ‘the biggest poker tournament in Indian history’ – EndBoss! The winner will bank a never-before-seen ₹1 Crore top prize!

Just before the break we witnessed a hand where Aravind Raj went all-in and scored a double-up through Pratibh Saluja. Saluja raised to 1.6K from the button and Raj flat-called from the small blind. On the flop Saluja fired a bet of 1.2K and Raj check-called. After the turn, Saluja bet 3K and Raj jammed, forcing a fold from Saluja to scoop the pot!
