In a shocking incident that has recently come to light, a 20-year old boy drowned after accidentally falling off the decks of an off-shore casino i.e. Casino Carnival after midnight last Saturday. The deceased, Sai Danush Reddy was a civil engineering student from Hyderabad and he along with six friends including his elder brother, had arrived in Goa on Saturday on a holiday. Unfortunately the holiday turned into a disastrous nightmare when five of them decided to go to Casino Carnival, to experience the much talked about, GoaÂ’s Casino life. The body of Sai Danush Reddy was discovered after two days of the incident at Miramar, a kilometer away from the vessel.
According to a complaint lodged by the brother of the deceased, Shiva Chaitanya Reddy, Reddy slipped from the second deck of the Casino Carnival boat when he had gone to the toilet and fell into the river.
This incident has once again brought GoaÂ’s casino industry in the spotlight, and surely not for a good reason this time. As a repercussion to this incident, unit of National Students Union of India has demanded to increase the age bar to 25 to enter GoaÂ’s offshore casinos.
At present, the applicable section 13G states that “no person other than a tourist shall have entry to the place or area where the game/games as authorized under section 13A are actually conducted.” This gives the freedom to the casinos to even allow small children on the vessel not allowing them on the gaming floors. They even charge an entry fees from children above eight years.
The incident has left many wondering about the present state of affairs at these vessels, waiting for an action from the government.
