The 2012 World Series of Poker Europe will see the tournament series once again return to Cannes, France, awarding seven bracelets over the course of two weeks this autumn. All events will be held in the Casino Barrière de Cannes Croisette and Hôtel Majestic Barrière, just as in last year’s event.
Year after year, players see subtle but important changes to the WSOP schedule in Las Vegas. However, the WSOP Europe schedule received just a few minor tweaks when compared to the 2011 version of the series. This is due in large part to French gambling laws, which only allow Texas HoldÂ’em and Omaha to be played. With that in mind, the WSOP made the decision to keep the number and format of the events the same, only making minor adjustments to the buy-ins for the tournaments.
One big difference for 2012 is that the entire series has been moved up more than two weeks.
“We can’t wait to return to the Cote D’Azur in 2012,” said WSOP vice president Ty Stewart. “We have moved up the schedule a couple of weeks to take better advantage of the great weather and all Cannes has to offer.
“Ask anyone who attended last year. This tournament is now a certified major championship and the experience is second to none,” he said.
Expectations High for 2012 Attendance
Last year the WSOPE main event crushed the previous attendance record of 362 that was set in 2007 and tied in 2008.
In total 592 players entered in 2011, and the WSOP is expecting even more for 2012.
“The media is already speculating on 1,000 players for the Main Event and we will be ready for them,” said Stewart.
American Elio Fox won the 2011 main event and collected €1.4 million.
Here is the 2012 WSOP Europe schedule in its entirety:
September 21 – €2,500 + €200 Six-Handed No-Limit HoldÂ’em (3 Day Event)
September 22 – €1,000 + €100 No-Limit HoldÂ’em (5 Day Event)
