PokerStars has recently started raking play money home game tables with 5% rake. This seems to me to deter private home game setups which was affecting PS revenue.

      Views?

This doesn’t change anything except making accounting tougher (there are ways round it). Ultimately they aren’t taking real money, so that fact that chips are vanishing from the table doesn’t change much.

Edit: There isn’t even any accounting hassle if private home games switch to play money tournaments instead of play money cash games as they used to.

I think the major hassle is with distributing the rake back to players in a fair way. As for tournaments i think most of these games survive because of the option to play anytime , (Hit N run) tables 😛

rake has affected the games a lot because we all generally play for stack sizes and as experienced if u play for an hour atleast 15k goes into rake its no more fun playing now the rake is very high imo

Well to state facts, a lot of real money cash games via private games exist on PS and they charge patrons a fixed monthly/weekly fee to play. PS actually loses out when action from Real Money ring games are diverted to such games.

Now they have analyzed the mechanics of such operations and created this hurdle to discourage rampant use of its software for such activities. We even saw a scare when Home Games was not opening for several hours a week or so back.
