Pocket52 PSL Season 3: Joey Saha’s Soft Play Penalty Lands MPL Goan Nuts in a Soup, Delhi Czars Climb to #3 in Team Standings
Update (February 9, 10 PM): The PSL management has informed us that the penalty imposed on Joey Saha and the MPL Goan Nuts is currently under review as a misinterpretation of rules as opposed to soft play or collusion.
India’s first and to date only virtual poker league, the Pocket52 Poker Sports League Season 3 (Virtual), has entered the home stretch now. The league is onto Week 4 with only two matches left to unfold before the semi-finals.
Apart from the odd technical hiccup, the virtual season had gone by without incident – until recently. A major controversy has stirred things up at PSL with the league management discovering soft play during the HighRoller 6-Max MTT on Saturday, February 6. On reviewing the match hand history, the PSL team found Joey Saha of the MPL Goan Nuts guilty of soft play against teammate Laksh Pal Singh. According to the leagues` rules, Saha has been disqualified for the season. Furthermore, all points scored by him so far have been deducted from his team`s tally. If that was not bad enough, the MPL Goan Nuts have been docked 20% of the points collected by it so far, and this penalty is applicable for the upcoming Week 4 matches as well.
In the aftermath of the controversy, MPL Goan Nuts has slipped down to the last (#8) position in the team standings, considering the point adjustments. The incident has all but ended the team`s hopes of a top-three finish this season.
With only two league matches left to unfold, the PokerDangal Kolkata Kings continue to reign supreme with 23,400 points. Deccan Aces have managed to retain their second position in the team standings with 22,500 points. However, there is a surprise addition at #3.

The Monday matches saw Delhi Czars’ Niharika Bindra taking down the Online Qualifier Category Match 2, collecting 2,500 points for her team. Bengaluru Legends’ Arsh Grover took down the Wildcard Category Match to win 2,500 points.

We have now entered the final month of the year, and with the pandemic still raging on, the online action continues to grab headlines, at least for the poker industry. For the first time in a while, there were no eight-figure (₹1 Crore GTD) guaranteed tournaments gracing the weekend schedule. Still, the regular weekly flagships running across the major networks kept players sufficiently busy.
There is a surprise addition at the top of last week`s charts in the relatively lesser-known Anand Babu Pallikona. Pallikona hit the motherload on Sunday after taking down Spartan Poker’s Sunday Superstack for ₹6.89 Lakhs and added another ₹3.88 Lakhs to his tally after shipping Tuesday’s Mega Stack. With a cumulative ₹10.77 Lakhs in recorded earnings, Pallikona reigned in the “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title!
This past week turned out to be a fantastic one for Team PokerGuru, with several of our ambassadors winning flagship titles while numerous others posted deep runs. PokerGuru Ambassador Ashutosh Balodhi netted the week`s single biggest score, pocketing ₹9.22 Lakhs after winning PokerStars India’s DIWALI RUSH-51 Main Event. At the same time, Balodhi’s teammates at PokerGuru Staking, Ratul Steves (Adda52’s Ballers), Ankit Wadhawan (Adda52’s Big Slick and Spartan Poker’s TGIF), Ashish Munot (PokerStars India’s Diwali Rush-45 Eliminator), Vivek Singh (PokerBaazi’s BSS MegaStack) and Ashish Ahuja (PokerStars India’s Battle Royale) added more titles to the team`s tally.
Manish Lakhotia, Ujjwal Narwal, Guneet Kwatra, Young Gun Anuj Yadav, Kamal Naruka, and Kunal Patni were the other top winners this past week.
This past week also brought a close to PokerStars India’s “Star of the Month” – November leaderboard race with the Week #4 leaderboard finding the final set of 25 qualifiers for the November Finale. Young Gun Neel Joshi topped the Week #4 standings, and all 100 qualifiers from the month will be converging for the Final that starts at 9 PM tonight.
There is some high-octane action to look forward to later this month. After a guarantee-smashing Final Table Series (FTS), Spartan Poker has announced another brand-new series, The Millionaire Series! Offering ₹5.70 Crores in guaranteed prizes, the 20-tourney series will run from December 7 to 13.
While Spartan Poker’s Millionaire Series will keep the tournament players engaged, PokerStars India’s new and improved Cash Game Leaderboards should appease the cash game lovers. The promotion offers 2x (100% increase) of the players’ current payout and is open across stakes and in both NLH and PLO formats.
Fast-growing online poker network, Pocket52 has also come out with an enticing Extra30 offer that promises a 30% deposit bonus to all players.
GGPoker Network’s popular skin Natural8 has been running Hourly Freerolls starting November 28. Players can win free entry to tournaments or from a $240 daily prize pool through these free to play tourneys.
The GGPoker Network will also be hosting the WSOP Winter Online Circuit. Running from December 13 to January 10, the series will host 18 WSOP Circuit rings.
On December 1, WSOP also opened the nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame (PHoF) Class of 2020.
In other news, the Goa administration has decided to shift the offshore casinos’ offices to the Santa Monica jetty to avoid traffic on the arterial road outside the casino pickup point.
Online Railbird Report
With the WPT Online India and the FTS in the books, online action was back to its usual weekly schedule across the top four sites, with PokerStars India’s Diwali Rush offering additional excitement.
Anand Babu Pallikona was the star performer of the week. A relatively low-key player, Pallikona earned his day under the spotlight when he outlasted a 715-entry field in Spartan Poker`s ₹35 Lakhs GTD Sunday Superstack to win ₹6.89 Lakhs. Just two days later, Pallikona dominated another 557 contestants in the ₹20 Lakhs GTD Mega Stack on the site for ₹3.88 Lakhs. With two flagship title victories in three days, Pallikona tops the weekly charts with ₹10.77 Lakhs in cumulative earnings, enough to make him our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!!”
Close on Pallikona`s coattails were PokerGuru Ambassador Ratul Steves and Manish Lakhotia.
Steves won the Ballers on Adda52 for ₹5.85 Lakhs and placed third in the Sunday Superstack for ₹3.11 Lakhs. Along with two more FT finishes, he raked in almost ₹10.75 Lakhs this past week.
Lakhotia was just as consistent and earned ₹10.56 Lakhs over a title win and five other FT scores. His biggest haul was the ₹6.62 Lakhs he won in the ₹25 Lakhs GTD Godfather. He also placed third in the ₹12.5 Lakhs GTD Big Slick for ₹1.28 Lakhs and collected another ₹93,221 from his runner-up finish in the ₹7 Lakhs GTD The Race last night.
Young Gun Ujjwal Narwal was another player in spectacular form. The MTT specialist won PokerBaazi’s Thursday flagship, the ₹15 Lakhs GTD The Summit, for ₹3.69 Lakhs. He went on to final table five tourneys on Sunday, including the PokerStars India’s Diwali Rush-51 Main Event (4th for ₹2.22 Lakhs) and the Diwali Rush -52 Sunday Highroller (4th for ₹1.55 Lakhs) to earn ₹9.46 Lakhs through the week.
PokerGuru Ambassador Ashutosh Balodhi walked away with the single-biggest score of the week. Balodhi stormed past 602 contenders to champion PokerStars India’s ₹50 Lakhs GTD Diwali Rush- 51 Main Event on Sunday. Posting his second-best overall performance, Balodhi pocketed the top prize of ₹9.22 Lakhs (₹5,07,492 in prize money and ₹4,14,531 in bounties).
Guneet Kwatra championed the Diwali Rush- 52 Sunday Highroller for ₹3.83 Lakhs while placing runner-up in the Sunday Superstack for ₹4.34 Lakhs, adding ₹8.50 Lakhs to his bankroll.
PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja added over ₹7.24 Lakhs to his tally this past week. He won the ₹5 Lakhs GTD Battle Royale for ₹1.08 Lakhs and ran deep in four other tourneys that included a third-place finish in the ₹35 Lakhs GTD The Elite for ₹3.60 Lakhs.
Young Gun Anuj ‘tittooTauji’ Yadav (The Elite ₹35 Lakhs GTD for ₹7.59 Lakhs), ‘Paperboi’ (Destiny ₹27 Lakhs GTD for ₹7.02 Lakhs) and Kamal ‘ksn123’ Naruka (Adda52 Millions ₹25 Lakhs GTD for ₹6.68 Lakhs) were the other prominent winners.

Balodhi, Kwatra, Naruka, Choudhury & Wadhawan Slay the Sunday Marquees
Ever since the lockdown-induced surge in MTT guarantees, we have become accustomed to witnessing ₹1 Crore GTD tourneys playing out over the weekend. Well, this past Sunday had no such offering; nevertheless, it was still an eventful day for Team PokerGuru. Three PokerGuru Ambassadors, namely Ashutosh Balodhi, Ankit Wadhawan, and Vivek Singh clinched top-tier tourney titles, while several others posted deep runs.
While the action on the domestic felt may have slowed down a bit, the international felt has picked up the pace with the $10,000 No-Limit Hold-em World Championship going live on the GGPoker Network for international players last night.
So, without further ado, let’s check out the Sunday highlights!
Spartan Poker
The ₹35 Lakhs GTD Sunday Superstack ran its usual course on Spartan Poker yesterday. After clocking in 715 entries, the event accrued a guarantee-smashing ₹35.75 Lakhs prize pool. The primetime tourney saw Guneet ‘GeeKay’ Kwatra gunning for the title, but he lost out to Anand Babu ‘OrangeZuce’ Pallikona, who captured the title for a ₹6.89 lakhs payday. Kwatra had to contend with a runner-up finish worth ₹4.34 Lakhs.
Coming off an over two-month-long title drought, Kwatra charted a phenomenal run on Sunday. He more than made up for his narrow miss in the Sunday Superstack by taking down PokerStars India’s DIWALI RUSH-52 Sunday Highroller, banking ₹8+ Lakhs for the day.
The champion Pallikona has made a habit of winning the Sunday Superstack. He had shipped it more than a year ago in May 2019 and made another run for the title in July 2020, where he ultimately placed second. He presently sits on ₹83.73 Lakhs in recorded earnings on Spartan Poker, with a profit of ₹23.20 Lakhs.
The ₹8.50 Lakhs GTD Money Heist logged in 284 entries, generating a ₹8.52 Lakhs prize pool. Aditya ‘loosecannon’ Bahl was the last player standing in the tourney. He defeated the first-ever Millionaire United champion Mahima Walia ‘mambojojo’ Das (runner-up for ₹1.27 Lakhs) heads-up to grab a winner’s payout worth ₹1.88 Lakhs.
PokerStars India
PokerStars India’s Diwali Rush series culminated yesterday. The mega event of the series, the ₹50 Lakhs GTD DIWALI RUSH-51 Main Event, recorded 602 participants, overlaying a whopping ₹7.86 Lakhs. The ₹7,700 entry buy-in tourney took almost 10 hours of non-stop play yesterday to find a winner. Traversing the field, in the end, was PokerGuru Ambassador Ashutosh ‘Msnugget’ Balodhi, who pocketed the colossal ₹9.22 Lakhs (₹5,07,492 in prize money and ₹4,14,531 in bounties) top prize after beating out our latest Young Gun Neel ‘Worm236’ Joshi in heads-up play. Joshi took home ₹4.44 Lakhs in prize money. Balodhi now has ₹73.74 Lakhs in annual winnings, while his lifetime MTT scores have touched ₹1.77 Crores after last night`s score.
With the Diwali Rush Main Event running, the site skipped the Sunday Special yesterday; however, the ₹18 Lakhs GTD DIWALI RUSH-52 Sunday Highroller SE did take place. Registering 193 contenders, the ₹11,000 entry buy-in event easily smashed its advertised guarantee, posting a massive ₹19.30 Lakhs prize pool. The former Millionaire champion Guneet ‘GSK1515’ Kwatra took down the tourney for ₹3.83 Lakhs, outlasting Binit ‘puntertwoseven’ Saraf – who placed second for ₹2.84 Lakhs.
Kwatra, who had won Adda52’s ₹1 Crore GTD AOPS Mini ME Finale on August 9, came close to bagging a second Sunday title in Spartan Poker’s Sunday SuperStack. He ultimately placed runner-up for ₹4.34 Lakhs. He also final tabled the Money Heist, ranking seventh for ₹31,865, raking in a cumulative ₹8.46 Lakhs for the day. Last night, his phenomenal performance has propelled his lifetime winnings across the ₹4 Crore-mark (₹4.02 Crores).
Besides the Sunday Highroller, the other event that awarded TLB points for the ongoing ‘Star of the Month’ November leaderboard race was the ₹2 Lakhs GTD DIWALI RUSH-54 Ultrasonic. The event brought together 201 entrants, generating a ₹2.01 Lakhs prize pool. Kapil ‘racemonk’ Arora championed the tourney to win ₹43,021 while ‘Marvolo10’ placed second for ₹25,405.
For complete details on the “Star of the Month” promotion and the latest leaderboard standings, visit the promotions page.
Adda52
With no Full House or Grand Mega Suits in sight, it was a relatively quiet Sunday on Adda52. The site’s biggest guarantee tournament on Sunday was the ₹25 Lakhs GTD Adda52 Millions. Sporting a ₹11,000 entry buy-in, the event cruised past its listed guarantee to collect ₹25.70 Lakhs in the prize pool after locking in 257 entries. Kamal ‘ksn123’ Naruka traversed the crowded field and clinched the title, along with a personal-best ₹6.68 Lakhs. Naruka wrestled past Goonjan ‘gmtesting’ Mall (runner-up for ₹3.98 Lakhs) in the heads-up showdown and is now sitting atop ₹1.56 Crores in online earnings.
The other Sunday marquee, the ₹12.50 Lakhs GTD Big Slick, logged in 582 entries, generating ₹13.09 Lakhs in the prize pool. PokerGuru Ambassador Ankit ‘d00mtr00p3r’ Wadhawan had won Spartan Poker’s ₹10 Lakhs GTD TGIF on November 27. Persisting with his winning form, he added the Big Slick title to his tally, collecting ₹2.39 Lakhs in the process. This is Wadhwan’s fifth tourney victory this month, and last night`s score has pushed his overall online earnings to ₹4.31 Crores. Yash ‘yashshri’ Shrivastava booked a runner-up payday worth ₹1.75 Lakhs.
PokerBaazi
The Sunday staple event on PokerBaazi, the ₹20 Lakhs GTD BSS SuperStack, gathered 387 entries, registering an overlay deficit of ₹65,000. A little over eight hours later, online phenom Sagar ‘sagarpupul’ Choudhury came out on top and bagged the ₹4.20 Lakhs winner’s payday.
Ankur ‘Stonecold’ Sehgal came in second for ₹2.94 Lakhs. Choudhury now has ₹4.59 Crores in MTT cashes, about ₹2.20 Crores of which he has earned in 2020.
PokerBaazi had two ₹5 Lakhs GTDs events playing out on Sunday, the BSS MegaStack and BSS Monster 6-Max.
