Poker Couple Celina Lin-Randy Lew, Richard Haridasoham & Sangeeth Mohan to Call the Action on IOPC Live-Streams

Poker players couldn’t have asked for a better start to the New Year, and most of that credit goes to Spartan Poker! The site is currently hosting the 10th edition of its most prestigious IOPC series, offering a monstrous ₹28 Crores in prize pool guarantees!

Life-changing prize money and poker stardom aside, there is a lot of entertainment awaiting the poker community in the form of top-notch poker streaming from the series starting January 22. The final table of six featured tourneys at the IOPC will be live-streamed, and as we saw at the Final Table Series (FTS) in November, a seasoned panel of commentators will be calling the action!

The commentating panel gets an entirely fresh look since the FTS, with the husband-wife duo of former PokerStars Team Pros Randy Lew-Celina Lin joining Sangeeth Mohan and Richard Haridasoham in taking on the commentating duties for IOPC. Joining them as a guest commentator at the IOPC will be comedian/TV personality, Suresh Menon.

Excited? We sure are!

IOPC Tourneys to be Live-Streamed

The final tables of six IOPC’s featured tourneys that include the IOPC The Master’s Table will be live-streamed (with 30 minutes delay) on various social media platforms:

The Tourny’s to be live-streamed include:

>IOPC Super Highroller January 29

This is not the first time Spartan Poker will be treating fans to live-streaming of an online series. The site successfully tested the streaming waters in November last year with similar final table live streams at IPC’s Final Table Series (FTS).

And just as last time, the online platform has an eclectic mix of international and domestic commentators lined up to lend their voices and expertise to the action.

Let`s take a closer look at the IOPC commentators.

Sangeeth “SaMoh” Mohan

A former PokerGuru Team pro, Sangeeth Mohan, aka SaMoh as he is fondly known in the poker community, is an old-hand in the game. The Kochi-based poker pro was the first player to be onboarded on the Spartan Poker Pro Team.

Mentored by India’s poker pioneer Aditya Agarwal, SaMoh is a former corporate trainer best remembered for his unbeatable run at international and domestic tournaments between 2011 and 2013. He also holds the distinction of winning the first-ever PokerGuru Tour Main Event in September 2011. He has since transitioned to playing cash games.

Given SaMoh’s significant experience in the game and his close-connect with the top regs, we can count on this recreational stand-up comic to set the virtual rail on fire.

Richard Haridasoham

Richard Haridasoham is another seasoned commentator, and players will recognize him from the live-streams of past IPC editions in Goa. He was also one half of the commentary duo at the Global Poker League India Season 1 broadcasted on Colors Infinity.

Having said that, Haridasoham is no rookie on the poker felts either and happens to be a former IPC champion. He won the IPC Main Event in the tours first and only international outing in Columbo in August 2012.

The Mumbai-based Haridasohan was the first one from India to start a poker podcast called “Poker Rajas.” Given his interest in the genre, Haridasoham makes for a valuable addition to this lineup.

Celina Lin

Arguably one of the more prominent women poker players from Asia, Shanghai-born and Australia resident Celina Lin comes with a power-packed poker resume. She happens to be the first female champion of the iconic Macau Poker Cup Main Event in 2012 that she won for a personal-best $110,077. Since then, Lin has won four more events at this festival in 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2017.

He also holds the world record for playing the “most hands of online poker played in 8 hours.” He clocked 14,548 hands in his first attempt at the record on May 4, 2012, from Vancouver, Canada.

Lew is known to many as being media-shy but put him in the commentary booth of a poker live-stream, and he turns into a rockstar. The online poker pro is a professional commentator and has called the action at top stops like the Triton Super High Roller Series in Montenegro and the GGPoker-hosted 2020 Super MILLION$.

The most experienced of all the commentators on the panel, it will be exciting to see Lew adapt his commentating style to the Indian context.

IPC: Pranay Chawla Wins ₹100K High Roller Title For Career-Best ₹51.66 Lakhs

The last three days at the India Poker Championship (IPC) have been nothing short of electrifying. With poker room packed to the brim, all three days have seen record-breaking turnouts at the series that is making a comeback after a good three and a half years.

Friday was a busy day at the Spartan Live poker room onboard the Big Daddy Casino with the two featured events on the schedule running alongside each other. The action started with the ₹100K High Roller that kicked off Day 2 at 3 PM with 70 surviving players from a record-breaking 207-entry field taking their seats. It took over 13 hours of play to get to a winner, and once the dust had settled, it was well-known online pro-Pranay Chawla who came out on top of the massive field to win the jaw-dropping ₹51.66 Lakhs up top!

The Noida-resident who is a graduate in Business Economics and was part of the Poker Sports League (PSL) Season 2 winning team Goan Nuts has only a handful of recorded live scores, but his online resume is far more illustrious. Chawla has had a breakout year on the virtual felts that saw him winning the Destiny 8.0 on Spartan Poker in February for ₹5 Lakhs. His other standout performance saw him chopping PokerBaazi’s ‘The Game Changer 1.0 ₹2 Crores GTD’ where he finished fourth for a whopping ₹33 Lakhs.

Coming into Day 2, Chawla steadily built his stack to enter the final table as the chip leader. He sent four of his final table opponents to the rail before squaring off with Nitish Gupta heads-up, eventually taking down the title after his rivered full house busted Gupta’s two-pair!

“I kinda feel I was destined to win when a couple of hands at the FT went my way, and I got lucky a few times. End of the day I’m really happy, and it’s just about starting to sink in,” said Chawla, who started playing poker six years ago and considers himself a semi-professional player.

“I really don’t have anything in mind,” Chawla said, talking about his plans to spend the prize money he has won. “When it comes to poker, for me, it’s not really about the money. It’s just sheer love for the game.”

This was the largest IPC event to-date though the Main Event seems well on track to beat the record later today. Day 1A of the Main Event registered 390 entries last night, and there is another starting flight that takes place today – so it’s safe to assume that we will be witnessing another record-breaking turnout.

It took more than 13 hours for Day 2 of the High Roller to play from start to finish and while a host of bigwigs like Raghav Bansal, Jasven Saigal, Nikita Luther, and Eka Vedantham – to name a few- fell out empty-handed, capturing the title for his first-ever live title was none other than Pranay Chawla! Incidentally, one of the rivals that Chawla dismissed on the final table was his PSL Goan Nuts mentor and team captain Dhaval Mudgal. Talking about that, Chawla said, “Yeah I didn’t really think about it till Dhaval brought it up and we were joking about chopping this IPC High Roller in the end.. just some fun banter at the table. On a serious note though, he’s been a big influence, and I have a lot of respect for Dhaval and got to learn many things from him about approaching the game.”

As for our first-ever Young Gun, Nitish Gupta, who most famously took down the PokerBaazi’s PPL Winter ’18 The MoneyMaker ₹1 Crores GTD in December last year for ₹32.63 Lakhs, finishing runner-up didn’t turn out to be a bad deal either, as he collected ₹35.24 Lakhs for his brilliant run.

2018 WPT Vietnam Main Event champion Dhaval Mudgal (5th for ₹9.81 Lakhs), and co-partner in the Casino Pride poker room Vikram Kumar (7th for ₹6.93 Lakhs) were among the other notable final table finishers in the event.

100K High Roller – Day 2 Recap

The excitement was palpable at the Casino Big Daddy in Goa on Friday afternoon where 70 runners took their seats to play Day 2 of the ₹100K High Roller. With a life-changing ₹51.66 Lakhs reserved for the winner and 24 top finishers assured to take home at least ₹1.88 Lakhs, there was a lot at stake.

It took nearly four hours for the money bubble to burst and a plethora of big names fell out empty-handed that included the likes of defending champion Sangeeth Mohan, bracelet winner Nikita Luther, Casino Pride’s Madhav Gupta, Eka Vedantham, Raghav Bansal, Alok Birewar, Jasven Saigal, Sam Anand, Abhishek Jalan, Phanindra Akkina, Sahil Mahboobani, and Deepak Bothra.

The Chennai-based Gokul Raj who was playing his first ₹1 Lakh buy-in tournament and has been in phenomenal form recently had a good start. He eliminated Sangeeth Mohan in the first level of the night and was sporting a sizeable stack through the early levels. However, Raj lost a few hands to come down to half a million in chips as the bubble approached. The young star then faced an all-in from Jimmy George and lost a crucial flip where he held pocket queens vs. the latter’s ace-king. The board gave George two-pair sending Raj out on the money bubble.

Raj even expressed his disappointment in his Instagram story.

The first player to finish in the money was Anil Gulati (24th for ₹1.88 Lakhs).

Soon, start-of-day chip leader Praveeen Dwarkanath ran his ace-jack into Pradeep Sharma’s ace-king to be left with only 50,000. Dwarkanath eventually made his way out in 19th place (₹2.49 Lakhs).

Some of the other notables who managed to make it in the money were Raman Gujral (9th for ₹5.18 Lakhs), Pradeep Sharma (10th for ₹4.46 Lakhs), Ganesh Kompella (11th for ₹4.46 Lakhs), Manish Gandhi (12th for ₹4.46 Lakhs), Nishant Sharma (13th for ₹3.77 Lakhs), Jai’ Joey’ Saha (14th for ₹3.77 Lakhs) and Siddharth Karia (15th for ₹3.77 Lakhs).

Jimmy George (8th for ₹6.04 Lakhs) bubbled the final table after being eliminated by Pranay Chawla. That elimination shot Chawla up to 6.58 Million in chips, and he entered the seven-handed final table as the table captain. Ankit Wadhawan (5,910,000) and Vaibhav Sharma (5,830,000) were the next closest stacks, while the affable Vikram ‘Lungi’ Kumar (1,640,000) was sporting the shortest stack and the start of the final table.

Final Table Recap

Poker vlogger, partner at the Casino Pride poker room and well-known poker player Vikram “Lungi” Kumar was sporting the shortest stack when the final table began. ‘Lungi’ was, however, unable to climb up and became the first elimination after his all-in shove with found a caller in Ankit Wadhawan who turned over . An ace or six would have bailed Kumar out, but the rundown saw Wadhawan improving to a set, sending Kumar out in seventh place.

About 30 minutes later, Gaurav Kathuria moved all-in with only to get a call from Pranay Chawla who showed . The board ran , and Chawla’s broadway forced Kathuria out to the payout desk to collect the sixth-place paycheque that incidentally happened to be his career-best live score!

The play then slowed down for a while before Chawla claimed his next victim in Dhaval Mudgal. The hand saw Chawla fire a bet of 500,000 on which Mudgal moved all-in for 3.25 Million. Chawla immediately called, turning over pocket jacks that had Mudgal’s pocket fives dominated. Nothing on the board came to Mudgal’s rescue, and the former WPT Vietnam Main Event champion was relegated to the rail in fifth place.

A massive pot was then witnessed where Chawla tangled with Nitish Gupta. Both players had flopped a pair of kings, but Gupta held the ace kicker and scooped the pot to add nearly 4 Million to his stack. Gupta now had a stack of 9.9 Million and was close behind Chawla who was chip leading with 10.9 Million.

Chawla extended his lead further by sending Ankit Wadhawan out in fourth place with his making two-pair on the board, busting Wadhawan’s .

Vaibhav Sharma was another accomplished player on the final table. Sharma, who has a string of live and online scores to his names – one of his recent online wins having come in June when he took down the Adda52 Mega Suits for ₹7.35 Lakhs – ran exceedingly well in the High Roller, but this is as far as he’d go. Sharma opted to move all-in pre-flop with his stack of 4.2 Million and in his hand. Chawla made the call with . The board ran bringing Chawla two-pair of jacks and aces and eliminating Sharma in third place for a personal best ₹20.9 Lakhs payday.

After a grueling four hours of play on the final table, it was time for the heads-up play between Pranay Chawla and Nitish Gupta. Chawla was the clear favorite with 19 Million in chips as against Gupta’s 12 Million. Gupta fought hard and won a few successive pots to close the distance, but in the end, Chawla took down the title. The last hand of the tournament saw Gupta moving all-in with , and Chawla called with . The runout gave Chawla a full house, and his first live title!

IPC: Records Continue to Tumble as High Roller Pulls in 207 Entries, Dwarkanath Leads 70 Survivors

Much was expected from the India Poker Championship (IPC) that was making its return after an interlude of over three years! After a spectacular opening on Wednesday where the ₹10K Freezeout logged in a record-smashing 437 entries, expectations were riding high on the ₹1 Lakh buy-in High Roller to set a new benchmark and what a show it turned out to be!

The High Roller has been one of the featured events on the IPC schedule since the last two editions, and here too the organizers had put up an ambitious ₹1 Crore guarantee. Smashing all past turnout records, the tournament garnered a mind-boggling 207 entries, becoming the first event in the IPC history to generate a prize pool over ₹2 Crores. While this still falls short of the 2018 WPT India Main Event record of ₹3.62 Crores in prize money, the event undoubtedly set a new record as the biggest High Roller tournament to be hosted in the country to-date.

The way things have turned out so far, the ₹35,000 buy-in Main Event that kicks off with the first of its two starting flights today could very well become the biggest tournament in the country!

The record-breaking turnout helped generate a prize pool of ₹2.03 Crores that is to be divided among the top 24 finishers. While a min-cash is worth ₹1.88 Lakhs, there is a whopping ₹51.66 Lakhs reserved for the High Roller champion!

Only 70 players of the 207-strong field survived the day’s onslaught and bagging the overnight chip lead was Praveen Dwarkanath who carries with him a stack of 1,240,000 to Day 2. Trailing him is a former IPC champion, Kanishka Samant (1,060,000), who is making back-to-back deep runs at the stop. Only yesterday he had finished eighth in the ₹10K Freezeout for ₹1.14 Lakhs and is the only other player starting Day 2 with over a million in chips.

Rounding out the top three stacks of the day is the young and talented Nishant Sharma. He has been a prominent presence at the WSOP these last two years, and he will be gunning for his first IPC title starting with a stack of 957,000 on Day 2.

While a complete list of survivors was not available at the time of publishing this report, some notables still in contention include Sam Anand (724,000), Casino Pride II operator Madhav Gupta (689,000), Jagdeep Singh (682,000) and Kanishk Upreti (600,000).

The event even attracted Bollywood and TV celebrities with the likes of Kunal Khemu, Minissha Lamba and Anita Hassanandani, all seen in action. Based on the limited live coverage, at least Khemu and Lamba were both reportedly eliminated before the day concluded.

Adding to the glamour at the event was the presence of all three Indian WSOP bracelet winners, namely, Aditya Sushant, Abhinav Iyer, and Nikita Luther. While the fate of Sushant and Iyer was not reported, Luther managed to bag a stack of 566,000 to Day 2.

Day 2 of the High Roller resumes at 3 PM with Day 1A of the Main Event kicking off three hours later at 6 PM.

100K High Roller – Day 1 Recap

The ₹1 Lakh buy-in ₹1 Crore GTD High Roller kicked off at 6 PM on Thursday and as expected the event line up featured the who`s who of the industry. The field quickly expanded, and by Level 3, 140 entries had been clocked in.

By the time registrations closed the final tally stood at a record-breaking 207 entries, making for a prize pool of ₹2.03 Crores!

After eleven 30-minute levels of play, only 70 have made their way into Day 2 and topping the charts was the former poker operator Praveen Dwarknath (1,240,000).

Some of the other top stacks progressing to Day 2 were Kanishka Samant (1,060,000), Nishant Sharma (957,000), Manish Gandhi (818,000), Sam Anand (724,000), Pulkit Goyal (702,000), Madhav Gupta (689,000), Jagdeep Singh (682,000), Kanishk Upreti (600,000) and Nikita Luther (566,000).

Among the early entrants in the High Roller were WSOP champion Aditya Sushant, Eka Vedantham, Nikunj Jhunjhunwala, Paawan Bansal, Vivek Rughani, Madhav Gupta, Nishant Sharma, and Bollywood stars Anita Hassanandani and Kunal Khemu.

A host of well-known names including Abhishek Jalan, Eka Vedantham, Abhinav Iyer, Vikram ‘Lungi’ Kumar, CEO of PokerBaazi Navkiran Singh, Ashish Munot, Raman Gujral, and India’s only female bracelet winner Nikita Luther joined the action over the next few levels.

Bollywood actor Kunal Khemu who has been attended previous IPC events, was seated on the featured table for the majority of the day. In the third level of the play, Khemu tangled with defending champion Sangeeth ‘Samoh’ Mohan over a couple of pots, each time Mohan digging into Khemu’s stack. Khemu held on to his tournament life for four more levels before he found his pocket fives outdone by Pradeep Sharma’s ace-nine that spiked an ace on the river.

Another seasoned pro Eka Vedantham busted midway through the day after he ran pocket tens into the pocket kings of Abhishek Jalan. Jalan hit a full house to knock Vedantham out.

In the sixth level of the night, 2015 IPC High Roller champion Nikunj Jhunjhunwala got involved in a massive pot with Gaurav Kathuria where he moved all-in with ace-queen versus Kathuria’s pocket aces. Jhunjhunwala, unfortunately, failed to improve and busted.

Around two levels later, former Bollywood actor Minissha Lamba was sent packing by Aditya Sushant who paired both his seven-six on the board. It just wasn’t Lamba’s day as immediately after busting she re-entered only to lose all her chips again with her ace-nine falling to 2017 WPT India Main Event champion Vikash Mantri’s pocket jacks.

One of the most interesting hands of the day saw the crowd favorite Madhav ‘Maddy’ Gupta winning a significant pot after hitting a Royal Flush. Gupta held versus Vikash Mantri’s . The board ran giving Gupta a Royal Flush on the river while dismissing Mantri.

DPT July 2019: Varun Vohra Leads 26 Survivors After Day 1 of ₹15K Deep Dive, Shravan Chhabria & Sangeeth Mohan in Contention

The season-ending edition of the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) got off to a blistering start yesterday onboard the floating Casino Deltin Royale in Goa. The series-opener at the four-event stop, the ₹15K Deep Dive NLH logged in a total of 294 entries – a massive 50% increase over the 187 entries at the opening event at the last DPT series in February. Incidentally, this is the best opening the DPT has got since the July edition last year that saw seasoned pro Jasven Saigal topping a massive 326-entry field.

It took 8 hours and 19 levels of play for the starting field of 294 entries to whittle down to 26 runners. The healthy turnout helped generate a prize pool of ₹41.99 Lakhs, and the tournament organizers have decided to pay out the top 29 places.

The money bubble burst during the last level of play with the Asian-circuit regular Yasheel Doddanavar getting the infamous bubble boy tag. It took another three eliminations before the bags were brought out with well-known pro`s Dhaval Mudgal (29th for ₹30,500), & Adda52 Celebrity Pro Minissha Lamba (28th for ₹30,500) falling whiskers short of making it through to Day 2.

Bagging the overnight chip lead was Varun Vohra (597,000 – 37 BB’s) with Mitang Soni (558,000 – 34 bb’s) and Abhishek Sharma (514,000 – 32 bb’s) rounding out the top three stacks of the day.

Day 2 begins at 2pm today and promises to be an exciting affair with circuit regulars like Shravan Chhabria (477,000), Saumil Krishnani (371,000), Avinash Tauro (216,000), Sangeeth Mohan (203,000) and Deepak Raina (148,000) in contention.

The ₹15K NLH Bounty (4 pm) and the richest event at the stop, the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller (5 pm) also hit the floor today.

Competition Rising in River Mandovi

For the better part of these last few years, DPT has enjoyed a free reign with minimal competition from the other poker venues. The only worthy adversary was the Baadshah Live Tournament series, but given the venue superiority at the Deltin Royale, DPT kept always kept the upper hand.

There is little doubt that the past two years have helped DPT emerge as a well-recognized brand, but competition has arrived. In what is the start of a busy live poker season, we have four live stops lined up in Goa one after the other all the way through October. Deltin Royale seems to have identified the threat and has for the first time ever come out with a TDS Booster Bonus for the ongoing series. DPT is giving out a generous 50% TDS refund for all events at the DPT July edition with players getting this bonus in their respective Adda52 wallet. The bonus can be claimed by playing real money cash games on Adda52 with the bonus expiring on August 31. The same was announced by the Business Head of Poker at Delta Corp, Manish Adnani, just days before the live series was to commence. Because this was the first time that DPT/Adda52 has announced a TDS refund offer for its live stop, most players applauded the gesture. Some regulars were unhappy with the offer since this required tournament players to play cash games to release the bonus.

Well, at least the increasing competition has forced operators to become more player-friendly!

₹15K Deep Dive – Day 1

The DPT July edition got a strong opening with 294 entries joining the field on Day 1 easily surpassing the 187-entry mark from the last edition in February that saw bracelet winner and Adda52 Team Pro Nikita Luther taking down the opening event. While the defending champion was eliminated well before the day was over, 26 others managed to find a bag at the end of play where leading the charge is the relatively lesser-known player Varun Vohra.

Nikita Luther

The healthy turnout in the event helped generate a prize pool worth ₹41.99 Lakhs with the top 29 finishers assured a payday. While a min-cash is worth ₹30,500, there is an impressive ₹10 Lakhs set aside for the eventual champion and the front runner to take home a million bucks is Vohra who will start play on Day 2 with 597,000 in chips. He will have to work hard for the title though since the field still has several seasoned pros in the mix along with a lot of new talent.

Varun Vohra

Among the top stacks in the field is well-known tournament regular Shravan Chhabria (477,000). Recently back after playing an extended WSOP schedule that saw him cashing in five bracelet events, Chabbria is officially on home turf having shifting base to Goa from Mumbai post his marriage a few months ago.

Shravan Chhabria

DPT Xpress March Main Event fourth-place finisher Abhishek Sharma is also in the running alongside circuit regulars like Saumil Krishnani (371,000), Avinash Tauro (216,000), Sangeeth Mohan (203,000) and Deepak Raina (148,000).

The field was replete with notables like Adda52 Team Pro`s Kunal Patni, Nikita Luther & Minissha Lamba, PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit Ray, Dhaval Mudgal, Sangeeth Mohan, Eka Vedantham, DPT February Main Event winner Ankit Kapoor, Meherzad Munsaf, Ramesh Rao Thotapalli, Masood Shaikh, Nishant Sharma, Vaibhav Shah, and Vidur Singhal to name just a few.

Among the early eliminations of the day were Shyam Jogi, Jayjit Ray, Bhuvan Bansal, Firoz Khan, and Yogesh Thakur. Defending champion Luther, Singhal, Vedantham, Munsaf, Thotapalli and Sharma also fell out well before the money bubble.

Jayjit Ray
Jayjit Ray

The bubble burst during the last level of play with Yasheel Doddanavar ending up becoming the last player to walk out empty-handed. Doddanavar has been a prominent face at several Asian stops this year. He first emerged onto the scene with a final table finish at WPT Vietnam in March where he final tabled the Deepstack Turbo event. Doddanavar then jumped into APPT Korea and made two final tables. Before his debut run at WSOP, Doddanavar finished runner up in the APT Philippines High Roller event. At the 50th annual WSOP, Doddanavar recorded four cashes with his best score coming from his 16th place finish in the $3K NLHE 6-Handed event for $18,352 (~₹12.69 Lakhs)!

In what is most likely Doddanavar`s debut appearance at the DPT, the London-based pro moved all-in with his short stack holding . Unfortunately for him, Samit Mehta woke up with pocket aces ending Doddanavar`s run in 30th place.

Seasoned pro and tournament regular Dhaval Mudgal became the first player to bust in the money, falling out in 29th place for ₹30,500. Mudgal announced all-in with , and Mitang Soni looked him up tabling pocket nines. Soni’s pocket pair held up eliminating the musician-turned-poker pro in 29th place.

Among the last few eliminations of the day was Adda52 Celebrity Pro Minissha Lamba (28th for ₹30,500) followed by another unknown player who went out at 27th place. With that, the 26 remaining players were asked to bag their stacks one last time.
