My first ever blog – Just had to be poker

Posted by Roshan Rodrigues on 2013-07-02 at 12:00 AM

Let me introduce myself, my name is Roshan and i am a highly unsuccessful poker player. I have been playing poker for last 3 years part time but mostly cash games and some live tourneys here and there. I have a full time job which I assume having read all the blogs is not ideal if you have to succeed in poker .
Last 12 months i have tried playing the online MTT’s and so far the results and feelings are mix

Basically i love the game for the sheer pleasure that poker gives those head rushes, spirit of competition, analytical decisions and to top it out it pays in CASH

The more i play poker the more I realize that the way you play poker is no different from the way you live your life. But I don’t know of any stereotyped successful poker players so it’s just my assumption

Moving away from all this, I have a few doubts or demons in the my head

· I have played online and live but what I fail to understand is the when you ahead pre-flop in the online tourneys the no. of times you lose coins flips is crazy. My theory -Probably I go for much more coin flips than I should as compared to live

· What is the healthy hit ratio for playing online tourneys? I understand you can’t final table every tourney let alone win it, so what’s the average ROI for a regular full time online grinder. Basically I am trying to work out realistic target here for my online tourneys
My basic aim is to start online schedule on a daily basis, I have been reading a lot of blogs and articles on online MTT but eventually I feel you can only learn and improve if you put in those hands in the required volumes to understand the nature of the game and its variances.

The only big tourney I won online is 5.40$ turbo knockout for 2500$ some 8 mths back but trust me that was nothing to do with poker skills or spots or decisions. I literally sucked out every player to win it. From busting aces/kings pre flop to being behind on the flop at 5% to suck out at the river.

This is my first blog and I know it is all over the place but I just jotted down whatever I was thinking.

Hope to clear my demons or doubts that I have of the online game and hopefully like those awesome guys killing it on the online circuit someday yours truly will find a mention
