Nice blog and agree with his views. BTW even the sports betting community is flourishing in INdia with Million ( even Billion ) in turnover from CRicket alone. Mode of operation: private bookies.

The industry needs proper regulation. Why ban and force it to be run illegally when it can be regulated and taxed. Protects the interests of all involved.

Hey Rajat, thanks for the posting the blog.
@techdemo: Yeah. I would also like to refer to the state of our film industry before corporate / banks financing came in. It created the underworld. Look at what happened to America during the prohibition era. It gave rise to Al Capone. Time and again history has taught us that prohibition only serves to promote crime and perpetrators of crime. Still governments refuse to learn as it serves their interests as well. From the movie MI2 : “To have a hero one must have a villain” .

@Vinay: Well home game scene is getting very HOT is all major cities and by the majority of posts from ppl looking at getting into home games its apparent that there is a need and govt is missing out here. Well let the “Al Capone`s of Poker” make money!

@techdemo.. Government maybe missing out but the officials are not.. recently these home games have been busted and huge bribes have been paid.. intermittent action is taken to ensure the games flourish on one hand and bribes flow when the action is taken against these games.. some local online operators have also cropped up.. fairness of their RNG’s (random number generators) is a doubt.. also I dont think they have any anti-collusion software.. multiple accounts are allowed.. i will be discrete in this open forum as everyone in the poker circuit is already aware.. all this adds to a very negative image.. negative image is the last thing we need…

Yes I guess we are all aware of these operators.

I guess the reason these have a demand is because of the network of agents for depositing and cashing out. I am aware that big international operators are also looking at setting up such agents in India which once it happens will be good for the game.
