      Hi,

After yesterday’s PGMP2 session, I played a couple of tournaments, and now my mind is abuzz with questions. I thought I would post just one thread with some of these questions. All questions are related to the early phase of a tournament, when most people (including me) have about 100bbs.

      1. Blinds 15/30, I am the sb and I get Pocket 7s’s. UTG 5x raises to 150. MP calls. All 3 have similar stack sizes. Should I flat call, fold or re-raise? (Personally, I would flat call here) In general, in such a scenario, which pairs is one better off folding, flatting, and/or re-raising here?

      2. I am in the hijack position with A2o. 4 limpers in the pot. In such a scenrio, should I just fold, or raise the limpers?

      3. I am bb, there are 4-5 limpers (including UTG) and I have hands like ATo, KJo, 78ss. Should I be folding, or raising here? , Pre-flop play, in such a scenario, should i act as if i’m in EP or in LP when in bb? Feels difficult to just fold these hands.

      1) Flat all pairs lower than KK. The point here is to hit a set and take all their money because people are usually awful at poker and will stack off with the top pair. In a weak tourney you can raise QQ and get it in, because UTG can often be a weak player who will stack off with rubbish.

      2) Just fold. A2o flops pretty terrible and you often lose lots of chips when you hit an Ace etc; there will be much better spots than this.

      3) Why you would you fold if you are in the big blind and people limp? You can just check- obviously. Did you mean something else? In any case don’t even think about raising any of those other than 87ss unless your opponents are VERY VERY weak at poker and will just pay off top-pair hands like a slot-machine.

“Pre-flop play, in such a scenario, should i act as if i’m in EP or in LP when in bb? Feels difficult to just fold these hands”

I am sorry I really don’t understand what you are asking here, could you please clarify?

      Hi Prabhat,

Sorry, my bad. For the last question, please read “folding” as “flatting”. Since I am technically the last person to act pre-flop here, my question was whether to raise or flat these hands. And I guess you have answered the question.
