One of the first few live poker stops of the year, the World Poker Tour (WPT) Russia, recently played out at Casino Sochi located in the Krasnaya Polyana region. The series was the third WPT festival to be hosted in Sochi and hit the ground as a collaboration between WPT and partypoker LIVE.

Grabbing the most attention at the stop was the ₽245,000 (~$3,300) entry buy-in Main Event. The series headliner registered 251 entries across four starting flights, creating a ₽54,247,551(~$726,832) prize pool. It took another two days for the field to whittle down to the six-handed final table. In less than six hours of play, the 19-year old Maksim Sekretarev (cover image) clinched the Main Event title.

Sekretarev, who had just $21,403 in live cashes to his name, entered the Main Event FT as the chip leader. He single-handedly eliminated all five opponents to win his career-first live title and a personal-best ₽11,996,600 (~$160,694). The victory made Sekretarev the latest player to have his name etched on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.

Poker pro Maksim Pisarenko was eliminated on the final table bubble (seventh-place) by Sekretarev.
