In this daily feature, we will bring you the key highlights of the 50th World Series of Poker (WSOP) to keep you abreast with the ongoings of the ‘World’s Biggest Poker Festival’.

After waiting for almost a year, the biggest poker tournament in the sport – $10K No-Limit Hold ‘em Main Event World Championship – finally commenced on July 3. While Day 1A eclipsed it predecessors record (2018 WSOP Main Event Day 1A – 925 entries) by registering 1,335 entries, Day 1B fell slightly short and logged in 1,915 entries (2018 WSOP Main Event Day 1B – 2,378 entries). With Day 1C, which is traditionally the largest starting flight (2018 WSOP Main Event Day 1C – 4,571 entries) slated to begin later tonight and late registration open till the start of play on Day 2, the 50th-anniversary special Main Event may well surpass the 8,773-entry record set at the 2006 Main Event.

This has already been a breakout series for Team India with several Indian players having come very close to capturing the country’s first solo bracelet, and the fight continues. With the “mother of all poker tournaments” now well underway, 11 Indian challengers have already progressed to Day 2AB from the first two starting flights.

Day 1B, which played out on July 4, saw six Indian contenders advance to Day 2AB, led by Yudhishter Jaswal who amassed the 34th biggest stack of the day of 193,400 (242 big blinds).
