It’s been more than a week since the inaugural 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online series hit the virtual felts, and things seem to be running smoothly. The series has already awarded eight gold bracelets. The latest player to join the elite list of WSOP champions is retired junk bond analyst and trader from Henderson, Nevada – Alan “GladiusIII” Goehring (cover image)!
Goehring became a professional poker player at the age of 39, and since then, he has accumulated $5.34 Million in total live earnings. He first made his mark on the live poker circuit with a third-place finish in the $3,000 No Limit Hold-Em event at the 1997 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for $61,845. His most notable WSOP score came in 1999 when he finished runner-up to Noel Furlong in the $10K Main Event for $768,625.
The 58-year-old finally got his hands on that elusive gold bracelet in Event #8: $500 No-Limit Hold ’em Freezeout about an hour ago for an impressive $119,399. It wasn’t an easy win by any means, but Goehring managed to eliminate “dudeguydrew” and Randy “StayAlive” Ohel, on his way to squaring off against Ross “BlueTang” Gottlieb. The brief heads-up encounter ended with Goehring clinching his first-ever WSOP bracelet!
The top 207 places were assured payouts, and “Debaser” became the unfortunate tournament bubble.
The prominent names who were able to board the money bus included Jeff “NedrudRelyt” Madsen (14th for $5,457.51), Don “banhmi” Nguyen (33rd for $2,861.86), Ryan “Adopt_aDogg0” Leng (45th for $2,395.98), Daniel “centrfieldr” Lupo (62nd for $1,730.43), Anthony “nowb3atthat” Spinella (75th for $1,331.10) and Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee (93rd for $1,703.73).
15-time WSOP bracelet winner, Phil “lumestackin” Hellmuth, who has been on the hunt for his elusive 16th bracelet, picked up his third cash of the series by placing 109th for $931.77. Hellmuth now has 136 WSOP cashes under his belt, amounting to nearly $14 Million in total earnings.
A double-elimination during Level 39, led to the formation of the nine-handed final table. The hand in question saw Steve “gborooo” Gross move all-in with , and Matthew “MartyCohen” Weiss called with . Randy “StayAlive” Ohel also called from the big blind, holding . The board bricked, eliminating Gross in 11th place and Weiss in 10th place. Both players received $6,921.72 in prize money.

Final Table Recap
“xILoUieIx” was the first player to exit the final table when their ran into Ross “BlueTang” Gottlieb’s . The offered no help to “xILoUieIx,” dismissing the player in ninth place.
Making his second final table appearance of the series, Event #3 champion Robert “BustinBalls” Kuhn was in good form as he eliminated Scott “miamicane” Davies from the competition. Davies pitted his against Kuhn’s . The runout missed both players, ousting Davies in eighth place.
Less than 10 minutes later, Kuhn found his next victim in “aceviper.” The latter’s was up against Kuhn’s . The flop gave “aceviper” a pair of queens, but Kuhn had the outs for a straight draw. The remaining two streets brought the and the , and Kuhn rivered a King-high straight, eliminating “aceviper” in seventh place.
Towards the end of Level 40, “dudeguydrew’s” was bested by Alan “GladiusIII” Goehring’s . The former found no help on the runout , ending their run in sixth place.
Next to go was “clembutt” when their was defeated by Randy “StayAlive” Ohel’s which bettered to a two pair on the rundown . “clembutt” bowed out in fifth place.
Robert “BustinBalls” Kuhn fought hard to claim his second gold bracelet of the series, but in the end, he fell three places short of the title. His were bested by Gottlieb’s .
Down to three-handed play, former WSOP bracelet winner Randy “StayAlive” Ohel raised from the button for 560,000. Goehring and Gottlieb called from the blinds to see the flop . Ohel led out for 800,000 and Goehring check-raised to 2.16 Million, forcing Gottlieb to fold. Ohel tanked for a while, before deciding to 3-bet shove for 4.08 Million. Goehring snap-called tabling . Ohel showed . Both players flopped a pair of kings, but Goehring was in the lead with his ten-high kicker. The and did little to further Ohel’s cause, eliminating him in third place.
The heads-up between Alan “GladiusIII” Goehring (18,147,226) and Ross “BlueTang” Gottlieb (11,432,774) began with the former in a 2:1 chip lead. It took less than five minutes for the heads-up to wrap up, with Goehring claiming the title.
On the final hand, Gottlieb opened for 680,000, and Goehring called. The flop came and Gottlieb continued for 860,000. Goehring raised to 1.72 Million. Gottlieb 3-bet jammed for 7.99 Million, and Goehring called.
