Event #20: $500 PLO 6-Handed of the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online series registered 1,137 entries (627 unique and 510 re-buys), collecting a commendable $511,650 prize pool. Ohio native and former WSOP bracelet winner Kevin “therealkg” Gerhart triumphed over the field to claim his second WSOP gold bracelet and a cool $97,572 top prize!
Gerhart had won his first-ever bracelet last year in Event#54: $1.5K Razz for a career-best $119,054. He presently has over $600,000 in total live earnings.
Gerhart had started the six-handed final table with the largest stack, and he maintained his lead right till the heads-up. Along the way, he eliminated “Shanmukha,” Chris “Robotbob47” Moorman, and Jenny “Mobey” Svancara. He did lose the chip lead for a while to his heads-up opponent “Duckmoney420,” but just as quickly won it back and ultimately claimed the title!
With this event’s culmination, 20 out of the 31 bracelets have already been awarded on WSOP.com. On July 19, the remaining 54-event schedule started on GGPoker. However, the opening day was marred in technical difficulties. The site detected a critical system bug, leading to two ongoing events, namely, Event #32: $100 The Opener and Event #33: $1,111 Every 1 For COVID Relief being suspended till next week. GGPoker has now confirmed that the site suffered a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that caused even more disruption.
According to PokerNews, the first incident involved server delays that affected client loading times, cash game hand dealing, Spin & Gold table loading, tournament registration, and tournament table loading. This was caused by an influx of players and observers that resulted in “service bottlenecks.” This happened between 13:53 and 17:11 (UTC) on July 19. A temporary fix resulted in the server downtime, and GGPoker has confirmed that the load will be distributed across other servers during emergency maintenance scheduled for July 24.
The second incident occurred later between 17:48 and 18:17 (UTC) when officials attempted to increase the length of late registration to remedy the first incident’s delays. This resulted in a “server-client protocol mismatch” that led to certain clients being disconnected. GGPoker has planned a series of “comprehensive fixes” that will be carried out during emergency maintenance on July 24 to fix the root cause.
In the wee hours of July 20, GGPoker fell victim to a DDoS attack that affected one of the site’s servers and led to many players being unable to load the client. GGPoker has confirmed that all servers have been checked and added to the DDoS protection service, with a second layer of DDoS protection being added for increased security.
Coming back to Event #20 on WSOP.com, the day’s highlight was undoubtedly the clash between two of the biggest names in poker. GGPoker Ambassador and six-time bracelet winner Daniel “DNegs” Negreanu and 15-time bracelet winner Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth were vying to add to their bracelet wins. While neither came out on top in this particular event, Negreanu still had the last laugh when he sent Hellmuth to the rail.
The much-talked about hand took place during Level 18 and saw Negreanu raise to 10,000 from UTG. Hellmuth 3-bet all-in for 29,937. Negreanu called with and Hellmuth turned over . The board gave Negreanu a seven-high straight, eliminating Hellmuth in 95th place for $920.97.

On the other hand, “RiderStrong” lost a big chunk of their chips to Kevin “therealkg” Gerhart, becoming the shortest stack with just 611,613 under their belt. Eventually, “RiderStrong” was eliminated in ninth place for $7,828.24.
