The second tourney of the inaugural 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online series, Event #2: $1,000 No-Limit Hold ’em 8-Handed Deepstack, commenced on July 2 at 3 PM (PDT). Logging in 919 entries (647 unique and 272 re-entries), the event generated a prize pool worth $873,050. Mystery user “PokeThese” championed the event, clinching the coveted gold bracelet and the top prize of $168,585.95. According to the WSOP website, “Official results will be released later on Friday, at which time the champ’s name will be revealed.”

The champion had entered the final table with the second-largest stack, and while a majority of their final table journey went unreported, they still emerged as the chip leader when the heads-up play began. Holding over 80% of the chips in play, it was a relatively easy battle to win against “KOVID19”. Given the pandemic that we are all undergoing, the oddly named “KOVID19” finished runner-up for $104,242.17.

Six-time WSOP bracelet winner and GGPoker Ambassador Daniel “dnegs” Negreanu had famously bet $1 Million stating that he will be claiming his seventh WSOP bracelet in 2020. Well, he was in the running, but sadly fell short. He had a very swingy ride in the event. The Canadian pro was ultimately eliminated by Matthew “Mendey” Mendez towards the end of Level 33 when his pocket nines were busted by Mendez’s pocket tens. Negreanu exited the tournament in 18th place for $5,849.43.
