The sixth and final starting flight of the 2021 WSOP Event #67: $10K Main Event World Championship is now in the books. With 1,045 players joining the Day 1F flight, the Main Event field has touched 6,360 entries (counting the 145 late registrations on Day 2ABD). Only 782 among them advanced to Day 2CEF, but with late registrations open for two levels on the last of the two Day 2s, it would be safe to assume the final count to come in a lot higher.

Adam Walton (334,000), Tung Nguyen (328,200), and Hannes Speiser (282,100) topped the day-end chip counts.

As expected, several Indian players entered the flight, and five among them, namely, Kunal Punjwani (149,500), Yudhishter Jaswal (85,000), Muskan Sethi (84,700), Ankit Ahuja (75,500), and Young Gun Siddharth Karia (39,500) made it across. They will be joining Day 1E qualifier Kalyan Chakravarthy (156,600) for Day 2CEF on Wednesday.

Event #67: $10K Main Event World Championship – Day 1F

On Tuesday, the sixth and final starting flight, Day 1F, took off one hour after Day 2ABD at 12 PM (local time). The flight drew 1,045 entries to expand the Main Event player pool to 6,360 entries. After five two-hour levels of play, 785 players kept their Main Event bracelet hopes alive.

A group of five Indians made it through the day’s play, with Kunal Punjwani (149,500) headlining the lot. Punjwani has seven WSOP scores to his name, worth a cumulative $100,072 (~₹74.36 Lakhs). His most significant WSOP cash had come in Event 82: $1,500 NLHE Double Stack at the 2019 WSOP – a seventh-place finish worth $74,401 (~₹51 Lakhs).

Young Gun Siddharth Karia was among the late arrivals at the WSOP and flew in after the U.S. government relaxed the quarantine regulations. He kicked off his WSOP campaign on a positive note by bagging 39,500 for Day 2CEF.

However, what really set the stage ablaze today was poker legend Phil Hellmuth’s Main Event entry. Hellmuth dressing up and entering the final starting flight of the WSOP Main Event is now a tradition at the annual series. Over the years, the 16-time bracelet winner has donned many avatars, including turning up in a Thor costume, arriving in an Ultimate Bet boxing robe, and showing up in full Caesar regalia. He has also donned the role of a NASCAR driver. This year, he made his grand entrance as ‘Gandalf the White,’ flanked by 16 models, two elves, and Dan “Jungleman” Cates, who was also dressed in Lord of the Rings character, hoping he could pull off some magic on the felts and get his hands on the 17th bracelet.

The costume seems to have worked for the Poker Brat, who bagged a stack of 94,500.

Adam Walton (334,000) topped the Day 1F survivors, while Tung Nguyen (328,200) and Hannes Speiser (282,100) round out the top three names on the day-end list.

Michael Mizrachi (212,300), Jonas Lauck (210,900), Barry Greenstein (166,800), GGPoker Ambassador Fedor Holz (161,600), and David Pham (153,800) were among the notables to advance to Day 2CEF.

The 2003 WSOP Main Event winner Chris Moneymaker, three months ago, created an uproar when he announced that he would be skipping this year’s WSOP over COVID-19 concerns. He was worried that he could potentially bring the virus back to his family in Mississippi even though he’s vaccinated. The ACR Ambassador seems to have changed his mind and is in contention to win the Main Event for a second time after bagging a stack of 75,800.
