The summer poker action in Las Vegas is heating action with the $16 Million GTD 2021 Wynn Summer Classic filling up the summer void before the WSOP starts in September-end. The Wynn Poker Room has been hosting the series since May 27, and the action has wound down to one of the most anticipated tournaments of the summer, the $10 Million GTD Wynn Millions.
The long lull in live poker sure did build up an appetite among tournament players, and as expected, the numbers came pouring. The Wynn Millions convincingly crushed its $10 Million guarantee after registering a staggering 1,328 entries across three starting flights. And the field is replete with some of the biggest names in the game, all chasing a piece of the whopping $12,483,200 prize pool and the life-changing $2.01 Million reserved for the ultimate champion!
After the three starting days, 484 players remained in action, and with such numbers, Day 2 was split into two days. The first of them, Day 2AB, ran its course on Monday, with 240 players (Day 1A – 90, Day 1B – 148) returning to play. The day ended with 76 bagging chips for Day 2 and Dominique Mosley (933,000) leading the pack. Hot on Mosley’s coattails was Pavlo Veksler (797,000), with the former GPI POY Alex Foxen (787,000) rounding out the top three stacks advancing through Day 2AB.
The one hand that made the headlines involved the start-of-day chip leader GGPoker Ambassador Bryn Kenney, who was delivered a crushing blow by Alex Foxen early in Level 12. In what was undoubtedly the hand of the day and probably even the event so far, Kenney jammed all-in on the river with , holding a full house on the board . Foxen snap-called him with for quads, sending the All-Time Money List topper packing.
Fellow GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu (77,500) fired bullets in all three starting flights before finally succeeding in his last attempt. Negreanu is among the 246 Day 1C survivors and one of five Poker Hall of Famers due to return for Day 2C on Tuesday. The other four Hall of Famers includes John Hennigan (120,000), Jack McClelland (99,500), Erik Seidel (8,000), and Johnny Chan (36,500).
Matas Cimbolas (235,000), Anthony Zinno (169,000), Maria Konnikova (88,500), and Maria Ho (86,500) are some other poker elite coming back for Day 2C.
Indo-American two-time bracelet winner Nipun Java was seen in action on Day 1C but busted empty-handed.
The money bubble is expected to burst on Day 3, on Wednesday.
The series has already run through 26 events and Jonathan Tamayo (Wynn Summer Classic $1,100 NLH$1 Million GTD for $237,935), George Antonakos (Won Wynn Summer Classic $1,600 NLH $1 Million GTD for $293,530), Spencer Champlin (Won Wynn Summer Classic $600 NLH $150K GTD for $70,641) and Camille Brown (Won Wynn Summer Classic $600 NLH $250K GTD for $49,901) are some players to have won side event titles.
