The 2022 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam Ho Chi Minh, which kicked off on August 8 at the Saigon Poker Club, has completed five days of action. Sadly, with the Asian Poker Tour website crashing, we have not been able to provide regular updates on the series where a large Indian contingent is in attendance.
While several side events have crowned champions, the series’ star attraction, the VND 6 Billion GTD APT Main Event, is well underway. Starting on August 11, the VND 20,000,000 (~$854) buy-in Main Event locked in 248 entries on Day 1A and 171 on Day 1B, creating a 419-player pool. Day 1C is currently underway.
The 2017 APT Macau Head Hunter champion, Manoj Pentakota (189,800), and the 2022 APT Summer Festival Hanoi – VSOP Deep Stack Hyper Turbo winner Amit Kaushik (169,200) feature among the top five stacks at the start of Day 2 among 203 survivors. Avneesh Munjal (78,700), Vinayak Bajaj (28,700), Nikhil Kedia (20,800), and Rising Star Ritwik Khanna (17,600) are the other Indians who will be returning for Day 2 on August 14.
Ngo Van Dat (208,200) is the overall chip leader.
The following players have won side event titles in the ongoing series: Aigar Plivcs (Won Event #2: Super High-Rollers for VND 1.138 Billion, ~$49,000), Lee Seongmin (Won Event #4: 2-Day NLHE for VND 270.27 Million, ~$11,622), Satoshi Kuriga (Won Event #6: Single-Day High-Rollers Championship for VND 398.59 Million, ~$17,139.00), Bang Quang Hung (Won Event #5: PLO for VND 114.410 Million, ~$4,920), Mai Bien (Won Event #7: Super Deep Stack Turbo for VND 224.320 Million, ~$9,646), and Ho Chi Chung (Won Event #8 Single-Day High-Rollers for VND 477.470 Million, ~$20,531).
APT Main Event: Day 1A & Day 1B Recap
Boasting a VND 6 Billion (~$256,443) prize pool guarantee, the APT Main Event kicked off on August 11. The opening Day 1A flight drew 248 entries, with 114 runners progressing to Day 2. Local player Ngo Van Dat (208,200) bagged the day-end chip lead with USA’s Tom Tran (199,900) in tow.
Manoj Pentakota, the Spartan Poker`s first-ever The Millionaire champion, ended Day 1A with the third-largest stack of 189,800.
Vinayak Bajaj (28,700) and Nikhil Kedia (20,800) were the only other Indians advancing from Day 1A.
Day 1B saw a smaller field of 171 entries joining the action. By the time the bags were brought out, only 89 players were left in the fray.
Poker streamer Amit Kaushik (169,200) emerged as the Day 1B chip leader.
Avneesh Munjal (78,700) and Rising Star Ritwik Khanna (17,600) also bagged and tagged on Day 1B.
With Day 1C underway, the number of Indians making the cut for Day 2 is sure to increase.
At present, Ngo Van Dat (208,200) is holding the overall chip lead, with Manoj Pentakota (189,800) and Amit Kaushik (169,200) ranked fourth and fifth in chips.
