The 2024 PokerGO Tour (PGT) Last Chance Event #3: $10,100 No-Limit Hold’em was a poker fairy tale come to life. Held at the prestigious PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas, this two-day event witnessed one of the most incredible comebacks in recent poker history.

Brandon Wilson (cover image), an upcoming star on the U.S. poker circuit, found himself in a do-or-die situation at the final table. Down to a mere three big blinds, with half his stack already in the pot, Wilson looked down at a humble four-deuce of clubs in the big blind. What happened next was pure poker magic – a flopped flush that reignited his tournament hopes and set the stage for an epic resurgence.

Wilson rode that wave of momentum all the way to victory, claiming his first PGT title and a $297,500 payday after defeating Landon Tice in heads-up play. Tice, a talented pro in his own right, walked away with a well-earned $184,450 for his runner-up finish.

Wilson’s poker journey has been noteworthy. Since bursting onto the scene in 2021, he’s amassed over $3.57 Million in live tournament winnings. Just last month, he turned heads with a $602,900 victory in a $25,500 High Roller at the Seminole Hard Rock Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open.

Event #3 registered 119 entries, tying the record for the largest field in a $10,000 buy-in event in PGT history, which was set just days earlier in Event #2. The tournament generated a prize pool of $1.19 Million, with the top 17 finishers taking home a share of the loot.

Michael Berk was the unfortunate bubble boy, finishing in 18th place and just missing out on the cash.

Several poker veterans made deep runs but fell short of the final table, including Dan Shak (8th for $47,600), Sam Laskowitz (9th for $35,700), Joe Serock (10th for $35,700), and Chino Rheem (12th for $29,750). Event #1 winner Nick Schulman also made it into the money, finishing 13th for $29,750.

The Race For the PGT Championship

For many players, the PGT Last Chance series is their final opportunity to earn enough points to qualify for the PGT $1 Million Championship, reserved for the top 40 players on the PGT leaderboard.

Wilson’s victory has propelled him to the top of the PGT Last Chance series leaderboard, tying with Event #2 champion Shannon Shorr at 298 points. Both players are now in a prime position to snag one of the three coveted Dream Seats – a direct entry into the season-ending championship. Landon Tice, who finished second in Event #3, is also a strong contender for a spot in the championship, sitting in third place with 184 points. With just three events remaining in the 2024 PGT season, the race for a berth in the championship is heating up.

If you missed the action live, you can catch the replay of the final table on the PokerGO YouTube channel. Don’t miss the chance to witness Wilson’s incredible comeback and all the other unforgettable moments from this exciting event.

Final Table Recap

David Chen, the first casualty of the final table, exited in seventh place after taking a crippling blow with ace-jack against Landon Tice’s dominating ace-king. Left with a mere 25,000 chips, Chen was soon eliminated by Brandon Wilson, who, fresh off a crucial double-up with four-deuce, was just starting his incredible comeback story.

Wilson, now fueled by momentum, continued his aggressive play, taking out four-time WPT champion Darren Elias in sixth place. Wilson’s pocket deuces held up against Elias’ ace-king, solidifying his position at the final table.

Meanwhile, Landon Tice was quietly building his stack. He seized the chip lead for the first time by out-flopping Dylan Linde‘s with his . Linde, the Run It Once instructor, was eliminated in fifth place.

Tice’s ascent continued as he flopped a set of sixes against PGT regular Sam Soverel‘s ace-four, eliminating Soverel in fourth place and further extending his chip lead.

The tension ratcheted up a notch when start-of-day chip leader Keith Lehr moved all-in for nearly 4 Million chips with pocket nines. Landon Tice, ever the opportunist, looked down at pocket kings in the big blind. The board bricked, and Lehr had to settle for third place. This decisive hand gave Tice a commanding 3-to-1 chip lead heading into the heads-up showdown against Wilson.

But Wilson wasn’t going down without a fight. He came out swinging, employing a strategic blend of aggression and well-timed plays. A couple of lucky flops helped him not only regain ground but also snatch the chip lead from Tice.

Wilson kept the pressure on, raking in pot after pot without even having to show his cards. Tice, however, remained a formidable opponent. A crucial hand unfolded when Tice flopped a straight with on a board, while Wilson hit top pair with . The turn and river prevented Tice from extracting maximum value, but he still managed to reclaim the chip lead.

The tension reached its peak in a massive showdown when Wilson, holding , moved all-in over Tice’s raise with . Tice snap-called, setting up the possibility of ending the match right there. But fate, it seemed, was on Wilson’s side. The board ran out , keeping his pocket threes in the lead and catapulting him back into a commanding position.

Now, it was Tice who needed a miracle. He moved all-in with , the same hand that had failed him moments before. Wilson called with . The flop came , pairing Wilson’s jack and leaving Tice drawing to a three. The turn and river changed nothing, sealing Tice’s fate and completing Wilson’s incredible comeback from the brink of elimination to becoming the champion!
