The £3,000 Partypoker No Limit Hold’em WPT UK Main Event saw a final day of high drama for ultimate champion, Matas Cimbolas (cover image). The Lithuanian took down the event, winning £200,000, for his careers first ever title.

The final day began, with Cimbolas leading the chip stack, but a see-saw game has him dipping several times, down to almost a 5 to 1 disadvantage. Overcoming all odds, he managed to come up shining, after beating hot favorite Britisher Ben Warrington in a thrilling finale.

The six-player final table began with an elimination within 15 minutes of play. Online poker’s No.1 ranked player, Patrick Leonard was the one to be busted by Warrington, though after coming in second in the £6,000 High Roller event, it should not be much of a disappointment.

Warrington then trained his sights on Phillip Mighall, the other short stack at the table. Mighall’s two pair was no match for Warrington, who drew forth aces, from a generous board and Mighall was relegated to fifth place.

Just a couple of hands later, WSOP Main event finalist Antoine Saout became Warrington’s next victim, when his ace six were trashed by Warrington’s ace seven.

The play now continued for two and a half hours, between the remaining three. Cimbolas was initially winning the big pots, until an aggressive Warrington soon overtook him. Third man Tamer Kamel, with ace king, was finally ousted by Warrington’s pocket nines.

Heads up play began, with Warrington seemingly a clear pip for winner, with his massive chip lead. However, the 21-year-old Lithuanian was determined and doubled up twice, to take the lead. Thereafter, Cimbolas accelerated the pressure, right up to the final hand. The board read out , clearly turning the tide towards Cimbolas, who held . Warrington with was forced to retire at 2nd place, with Cimbolas taking his first ever WPT win.
