Seymour had spent the first eight seasons of his 12-year NFL career with the Patriots and played an essential role in delivering six division titles, four conference crowns, and three Super Bowl championships to New England. He will be the 10th Patriot to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

After the announcement, Seymour tweeted:

Seymour said, “For me, I think it’s about a body of work, not one game or one season because guys can do well one season and miss in the next, so I think it’s about a body of work over the entire course of your career,”

On the announcement, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said, “He laid the foundation for a defense that helped propel the Patriots to three Super Bowl championships in his first four seasons in the NFL. Richard was the consummate professional and leader, always accepting the roles he was assigned, putting team goals ahead of personal ones, and in turn, raising the game of everyone around him.”

Seymour said he learned poker after watching his father play video poker in convenience stores in Georgia when he was a kid. The game served as a competitive outlet for him after he retired from football in 2012.

He has over $645K in live tournaments earnings, including a 131st place finish in the WSOP Main Event for almost $60K. His best performance in poker is the third-place finish at the $25K PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in 2018 for $376K.

Recapping his early days in poker, Altman said, “I got into poker during the Moneymaker era. Everyone in high school was playing, and I was hooked.”

After the win, Altman ecstatically told WSOP reporters, “I am very excited to get my third ring, and now I get an invite to the ‘tournament of champions,”

The $1,700 buy-in Main Event logged in a 725-entry field to generate a $1,098,375 prize pool. The top 109 places finished in the money with a min-cash worth $2,555.

Altman entered the final day`s play with a massive chip lead over the six remaining opponents. He held on to the lead till the start of the heads-up play.

During the heads-up, he briefly lost the chip lead, but used his aggressive style to double through Athanasios Polychronopoulos. On the final hand of the event, Polychronopoulos’ fell short against Altman’s on the runout .
