It’s been a very busy week with the 2018 World Poker Tour (WPT) India playing host to some enthralling action in Goa. While the core group of domestic pros were busy at the WPT, another group of poker elites staked claim on the massive prizes on offer at the various domestic poker sites.
PokerStars India has created a niche for Sunday grinders by revamping the structure of its most-valued tournament, the Sunday Special, into a ‘Progressive KO’ format – a popular format that no one else offers with such value. It was only a matter of time but it came in this past Sunday where India`s poker pioneer and Team PokerStars Pro Aditya Agarwal took honors at the event for ₹3.65 Lakhs. Agarwal may have missed his chance at the WPT but he more than made up for it online as just last week he had won the Diwali Rush Highroller ₹10 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.72 Lakhs.
The list of other big Sunday winners at PokerStars featured names like Ankit ‘Bhoochal’ Saxena (The Classic NLHE ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹47,105), Ashish ‘Spewushhhiiiii’ Ahuja (Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹42,996), ‘tuhinanshu’ (Sunday Storm ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹38,516), ‘bhasm@sur1’ (Sunday Supersonic ₹1.25 Lakhs GTD for ₹30,426) and Vishal ‘Vishalb22’ Bajaj (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹27,263).
Another trailblazer last Sunday – Sriharsha ‘ivey2’ Doddapaneni, juggernauted his way to the top in the Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹15 Lakhs GTD on India’s most trusted poker site – PokerBaazi. He outlasted a field of 259 entries (179 unique and 80 re-entries) and won ₹3 Lakhs in prize money! In other events, ‘Monster’ shipped the BSS PLO ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.25 Lakhs and Rohit ‘kudos0505’ Behal topped The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.22 Lakhs.
In addition to the regular fixtures on PokerBaazi last Sunday were the last of the Baazi Grinders Special Series events. The headline event of the series – the ₹10 Lakhs GTD Main Event eventually turned out to become the biggest tournament last week on PokerBaazi with a massive 833 entries. While the top 63 places were assured payouts, taking home the lion`s share of the prize money i.e. ₹1.82 Lakhs was Vishal ‘Bhai9’ Marwaha. ‘Rishav1995’ took down the Grinders#32 6-Max ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹26,640.
Young Gun Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover was another standout performer this past Sunday as he won 9stacks’ signature event, the Sunday Stacks, for the second consecutive week, this time for ₹2.60 Lakhs.
Recently launched online poker site PokerRaj, is currently playing host to weekly Nations Cup Qualifier`s that have a ₹1 Lakh GTD every Sunday. This week Neel Ajit ‘Legolas33’ Joshi took down the event and won ₹33,000 along with a seat in the Nationals Cup Finale that will be held on January 13!
