The scene at the 2018 888poker LIVE Barcelona €1,100 Main Event lit up when two poker pros battled it out for the trophy on June 4. Outlasting 709 entrants, Romania`s Adrian Costin Constantin (cover image) faced Spain`s Joel Isla after agreeing to a heads-up deal which meant that both players were awarded prize money worth €114,025.
Constantin, who is ranked 82nd on the Romania All Time Money List, had cashed out for the first time in April 2014 at the € 50 + 10 No Limit Hold’em – Weekend Poker at the Casino Barcelona Recurring Tournaments. He has since been around the felts and has accumulated $127,233 in total live earnings while also registering a win at the €100 + 15 No Limit Hold’em – Poker IN in December 2014. The win at the 888poker Main Event was the largest cash win for him and has doubled the previous amount of total cashes that he had. The Romanian had entered the Main Event through a live satellite that was hosted at the Casino Barcelona for €110.
With a high number of players entering the Main Event, the €500,000 guarantee was easily crushed and increased to a €709,000 prize pool. The initial number of players eventually dwindled down to 203 on the second day, with only 27 participants left for the final day’s play.

Isla began the final day with a chip lead of 2,016,000. He was followed by Adria Diaz Dalmau with 1,662,000 and Gianny Dominique Morano with 1,466,000.
Notable eliminations included 888poker Ambassadors Parker Talbot and Martin Jacobson. Andrea De Georgio was busted on the money bubble by Tomasz Aleksander Chmiel.
Final Table Recap
The final table consisted of nine players from all over Europe. Constantin, Cosmin Rusu and Sergiu Sirbu were from Romania. Joel Isla, Manuel Navarro Perez and Oscar Casado Diaz from Spain. Corrado Martinelli and Luigi Andrea Shehadeh represented Italy, while Tomasz Aleksander Chmiel was the lone player from Poland.
The game saw the early departure of the Polish Chmiel (9th place) who was ousted by the Spaniard Isla when the former’s pair of eights could not compete against the latter’s pocket kings.
Romania`s Sirbu (8th place) was the next to go. His ace-four was outdrawn by his fellow Romanian – Constantin who held king-jack suited. Nevertheless, the silver lining for Sirbu was that he had qualified for the event through a freeroll at 888poker that resulted in a five-figure payday.
Defending champion Shehadeh (7th place) played well throughout the event but in the end lost out to Isla. His ace-five was could not hold up against the latter’s ace-jack.
Diaz (6th place) was similarly eliminated by Constantin. His ace-jack was beaten by the latter’s ace-king.
The next two to follow were Martinelli (5th place) and Rusu (4th place). The former was eliminated by Isla’s pocket fives against his jack-ten suited. The latter lost to Constantin’s pocket tens holding ace-queen.
After Perez`s (3rd place) departure from the table when his jack-nine could not match up to Isla’s suited ace-queen, Constantin and Isla were the only two left to battle it out for the title.
The final heads-up went on for two hours with the lead changing hands several times. Isla started off with a 3:1 chip advantage, but by the time the next break rolled around, Constantin had a 4:1 chip advantage. Ultimately, the duo agreed to a heads-up deal which meant that both players would receive a prize money of €114,025. The play continued for the trophy.
In the final hand of the event, Isla went all-in with, but it fell short against Constantin who called with . The board ran and Constantin`s pair of nines won him the title.
