Amaya has been actively pushing its expansion plans and in its quest to enlarge its portfolio, it has now acquired the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) site Victiv. The news was announced yesterday, Aug 14 and the Canadian conglomerate informed that the current Victiv team would continue to helm it.

The Victiv site is to be renamed though, as StarsDraft and Amaya intends to first launch it in the American market and later via its PokerStars base. The Texas-based Victiv has witnessed tremendous growth within just a year of operations in the fantasy sports offerings scene. It is currently available all across the 45 states in the US where such offerings are legal and is behind only the existing market leaders, DraftKings and FanDuel.

David Baazov, CEO Amaya made the announcement and stated that Victiv had been chosen for its functional technology that was decided upon after considering 12 different DFS companies. While speaking about it, Baazov said that Victiv had already carved a niche for itself due to its, “its user-friendly and innovative software’ which confirmed the acquisition.

Baazov however cautioned that the new site under Amaya would not be expansive, as the market was not yet ready for such offerings. He said that Amaya would invest hugely in the new StarsDraft only after the current market had matured to provide returns for the same.

Matthew Primeaux, CEO, Victiv also addressed the press and enthusiased that “StarsDraft will combine Victiv’s innovative platform and experienced DFS team with Amaya’s expansive consumer base and operational excellence as the world’s preeminent online gaming brand.

Primeaux went on to add that the new site would capitalize on the strong crossover that existed between online poker players and daily fantasy sports.

The press release also informed about the new promotional “Bankroll Builder” at the site. This free-to-enter contest is aimed at new players, giving them an opportunity to win big prizes without any deposits.

The site has come at a perfect time, coinciding with the NFL season and industry watchers see great potential here, with the DFS market expected to grow to $1.2 billion by 2020.
