Americas Cardroom (ACR) is back in the news and this time it’s for signing a one-year deal with actor and comedian Andy Milonakis. On April 21, Milonakis took to Twitter to announce the collaboration:

He stated that even though poker is a new hobby for him, he does have prior experience playing online and on live-streamed poker shows. He has appeared on PokerGo and even been featured playing in some Live at the Bike streams on YouTube. He’s also appeared in some Ryan Depaulo poker vlogs.

ACR has been in the spotlight of late. All the attention can be attributed to the high-profile celebrity charity tournament that was hosted on the site last week. Named the ‘All-In for America Celebrity Poker Tournament’, ACR set the tournament up to live stream on Twitch and promised some big names like Ben Affleck, Tom Brady, Jason Bateman, Aaron Paul, Matt Damon, Tobey Maguire, Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, Adam Levine, and John Krasinski. Some legendary poker pros like Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth were also in attendance.

The tournament drew a total of 65 entries. All the celebrities mentioned above turned up to play, along with Jon Hamm, Cheryl Hines, Kevin Smith, and Brian Cranston. The poker pros in the fray included Jason Koon, Alex Foxen, Todd Brunson, Jeff Gross, Jaime Staples, and Mike McDonald.

In the end, it was poker pro Ebony Kenney who worked her way through the crowd to win the tourney, eliminating Damon and Hellmuth along the way. The tournament collected $1.75 Million for the ‘Feeding America’ charity!

While ACR’s effort to help out during the rapidly growing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was admirable, it also led to some unsavory speculations. This was since ACR, which is an online poker site based out of Costa Rica, continues to accept poker players from all across the U.S – operating in what many believe is the grey area of the law.

In the U.S., online poker is fully legal and regulated in the states of Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Therefore, the virtual version of the mind sport is considered illegal in the rest of the country.

A representative of ACR has, while defending the legality of the site’s business in the U.S, clarified to reporters, “There’s no federal law that expressly prohibits online poker. There are federal laws that prohibit the conduct of illegal gambling under state laws. So, you have to look state by state.”

In a way exploiting the vagueness of the law, ACR has now teamed up with Milonakis, who undoubtedly has a substantial social media presence with 570,000 followers on Twitter and about the same number of subscribers on YouTube.

Milonakis shot to social media stardom after a YouTube video titled ‘The Super Bowl is Gay,’ become viral. He started monetizing his fame by launching the ‘The Andy Milonakis Show,’ a sketch-comedy series. On his Twitch channel, Milonakis features a plethora of random content that includes streaming video games and live vlogs.

Following his deal with ACR, Milonakis will be adding online poker streams to his channel soon.
