Vietnam is fast turning out to become a go-to destination for poker events. The Asia Poker League Road Series Vol.3 returned to the Pro Poker Club, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam with the proceedings kicking off on November 15. This is the first time that APL has partnered with the renowned DeepStack Open. Even as the majority of Indian poker circuit is busy competing at the 2018 WPT India, a few Indians have already joined the action at APL.
Opening Team India`s scorecard at the series is style, Abhishek Paul juggernauted his way to top in the Hyper Turbo event. Paul bested 18 entries to take home the top prize worth VND 34 Million (~₹1.05 Lakh) along with his maiden APL title.
PokerGuru spoke with Paul on his maiden APL title and he said, “Winning a trophy at any game, irrespective of stakes feels euphoric; at an international event it just feels surreal. I usually don’t get to play live tourneys much owing to work, but for sure I’ll be chalking out a schedule to visit a couple of events in the times ahead.”
Indian challenger Aditya Das was also in the running at the event but ended up bubbling the event.
The event attracted a total of 18 entries to create the prize pool worth around VND 70 Million and the top 3 places made it in the money.
India’s Aditya Das went out on the money bubble, while fellow countryman Abhishek Paul emerged as the champion.
Paul relegated several of his final table opponents to the rail to reach the heads-up play where his opponent open shoved holding and Paul woke up with and made an easy call. The board ran and Paul took down the title along with the VND 34 Million (~₹1.05 Lakh) first-place purse.
In other side events, the first-ever DeepStack Open Vietnam title crowned a winner in Hwang Sang Yeon while four other side events wrapped up with Kim Ki Nam (KO Bounty for VND 128,830,000), Kjell Ove Dyb (APL TOP GUN – Winner Takes All for VND 108,640,000),ShyhChyn Lim (No Limit Hold’em Turbofor VND 105,520,000), and Nguyen Quoc Vu (VND 7.7M NLHE event for VND 184,690,000) winningg titles.
The series will run through November 25 featuring 18 events, highlighted by the VND 16,500,000 Main Event guaranteeing a whopping VND 8 Billion (US$342,500) prize pool. The Main Event is slated to run from November 18 to 24 with four starting flights. Other major attractions of the series include six Big Blind Ante events, a VND 33,000,000 High Roller, and the APL Super Deepstack!
