The second and last starting flight at the ongoing Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila PHP 65,000 Main Event played out on Friday registering once again a massive 732 entries (603 unique players and 129 re-entries). This combined with the 403 Day 1A entries made for a total field size of 1,135 runners, falling well short of the 1,364 entries that were registered at the stop last year. The organizers still had reasons to celebrate given the fact that the event guarantee was more than tripled with the total prize pool collection touching PHP 64,405,575 (~₹8.70 Crores)!
Given the sizeable Indian contingent already present at the series coupled with a few more entrants, Day 1B saw a group of 14 Indians joining the action. Six among them managed to make it to Day 2 led by Mani Singh (123,500 – 41 BB’s). Combined with the three Day 1A qualifiers this makes for a total of nine Indians starting play on Day 2.
One of the standout performers of the day came from none other than India`s first bracelet winner, Aditya Sushant. The Chennai-based pro is just coming out of a busy summer that saw him putting in a full schedule at the 2019 WSOP. Sushant posted seven cashes at the series with his 13th place finish in the $1K NLHE for $17,409 (~12.09 Lakhs) being his best score all summer. Accompanying good friend Abhinav Iyer, Sushant was next seen playing various events at the WPT Gardens Poker festival and even managed an eighth-place finish in the $2,200 NLHE – 8-Max event for $4,635 (~₹3.22 Lakhs). Even at the ongoing series, he has played most of the events and after an initial dry run, finally opened his scorecard yesterday with a third-place finish in the PHP 15,000 Megastack Turbo Freezeout for PHP 232,000 (~₹3.13 Lakhs). Sushant even managed to bag a stack of 57,000 (19 BB’s) on Day 1B of the Main Event.
Also in the mix is PokerGuru Ambassador Vivek Singh (100,000 – 33 BB’s) who has been dabbling in live cash games off late. He was also part of the winning team Mumbai Jetsetters at GPL India and had won a PSPC pass to the Bahamas. Unfortunately, visa issues derailed his plans. But he is in Manila putting to practice everything that he has learned from his mentor and PokerStars India Team Pro Aditya Agarwal.
