Poker players can rejoice now that the APT Series Cambodia stop is back and after a long gap of two years. The inaugural APT Cambodia event took place in 2012, when Vietnam’s Ha Doung had emerged the Main Event champion.
The APT Asian Series Cambodia 2014 is scheduled to run from July 23rd to July 30th 2014 at the recently opened poker room in Queenco Casino and Hotel at the Cambodian beach town of Sihanoukvilla. The series will feature 13 side events, a high roller event and the Main Event, expected to attract players from around the world. Four events have already crowned their respective champions and here is a recap of the series so far…
The inauguration of the series started with the traditional ribbon cutting and got off to a flying start with the opening event, Welcome to APT Event, receiving more than expected participation with a total of 87 entries. Hun Sokmeng emerged as the champion to take home the first APT trophy of the series along with US$2,300 in prize money.

“We are delighted normally we expect around 40-50 players on the first day as most players are normally still flying in… To have this number so early in the week is a fantastic start,” said APT Tournament Director Lloyd Fontilla.
This year the series is also working towards a noble cause of charity. A sizeable number of players generously signed up for the worthy cause in the Ante Up for Charity, where a third of the prize pool was donated to Let Us Create, a local Cambodian non-profit organization.Well-known high stakes player David Steicke took down the event and donated an additional US$ 1,000 of his winnings from the tournament to take the donation up to US$2,300.

“With impressive first day player sign-ups and the fact that quite a large contingent of players have arrived yesterday, we are expecting the Main Event to be well supported,” said APT CEO Jeff Mann.
Day 2 of APT Asian Series Cambodia 2014 was scheduled to hold two events. The first one and the opening event of the day was US$ 110 NLH Multiple Rebuy and Add-On tournament. The event collected a prize pool of $10,000 and a first timer at APT, Russia’s Aliaksiandr Yushkevich outlasted the field, to take home the prestigious trophy along with first place prize of $3,100.

The second event of the day, the US$ 2,500 High Rollers saw a prize pool of over US$ 55,000 from the 25 player entries. Among the notables in attendance included high stakes poker regular David Steicke; World Gaming Magazine’s Andrew Scott and Michael Mariakis; recent APT champion Hun Sokmeng; Japan’s Iori Yogo and back-to-back APT POY Sam Razavi. When the dust settled, it was Japan’s Daichi Tominaga who took down the event for $24,000.

Today, the Day 3 of the series will host the popular $220 Head Hunter at 1:00 PM (local time).
The next stop on the APT schedule is APT Manila and the organizers have recently released the schedule for their upcoming stop at Manila scheduled from September 10th to the 17th.
