The first APT stop of the year, the 2023 Asian Poker Tour Hanoi Vietnam VSOP, is shaping up to be an exciting one for Team India, with eight cashes in the bag, including three FT finishes and an APT trophy!

Three days after Spartan Poker Team Pro Zarvan Tumboli`s runner-up finish in the series-opener APT Kickoff, his fellow Team Ambassador Nikita Luther got the country its first APT title of the year. The WSOP bracelet winner raced past the 80-player field in the new addition to the series, Event #22: NLH – Super Holdem (3 hole cards) – Hyper Turbo, to capture her maiden APT trophy, along with a winner’s paycheque worth VN₫85.37 Million. Russia’s Nikolay Ponomarenko pocketed VN₫60.68 Million as the runner-up.

Talking about her win, Luther told PokerGuru, “APT experimented with a new format where we could use 3 cards. Adjusting strategy and figuring out the game was a really fun experience. Glad to bring the first trophy home for India. Great contingent here; here’s hoping for more!”

Seasoned poker operator Praveen Dwarkanath registered his third score of the festival in Super Holdem (3 hole cards) – Hyper Turbo, banking VN₫24.21 Million in fifth place to improve his total earnings in the festival to VN₫50.15 Million.

The Tuesday action saw the series showstopper, VN₫10 Billion GTD APT Hanoi Vietnam VSOP Main Event, hosting its second starting flight, Day 1B. Here again, it was an Indian stealing the spotlight as Prashant Bhutoria (247,500) bagged the day-end chip lead among 74 survivors from a 175-strong starting field.

Bhuotria is the sixth Indian to advance to Day 2 and will be joining Day 1A qualifiers Pranav Bagai (147,000), Praveen Dwarkanath (132,400), Zarvan Tumboli (91,700), Alok Birewar (85,900), and Kunal Patni (60,500).

Adding to the team`s tally was Alok Birewar, who finished fourth in the other featured tournament of the day, Event #19: Single Day High Roller, for VN₫243.780 Million, posting his first cash in the series.

In other side events, the two-time APT Main Event champion, Filipino pro Lester Edoc shipped Event #19: Single Day High Roller for VN₫689.930 Million, adding a 16th APT title to his glittering poker resume.

While Luther certainly did India proud with her title win, the honor of becoming the first woman to win a title in the ongoing series went to China’s Xianling Chen. She shipped the inaugural Event #20: Tuesday Tempest, netting VN₫172.47 Million.
