APT Online Series: Natural8 Ambassador Pete Chen Wins Championships Event For $113.84K

The curtains finally came down on the 15-day-long 2020 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Online Series on Sunday. The 234-event series ran from June 14 to 28 on GGNetwork’s Asia-facing Natural8.com.

On Sunday, the showstopper was the final day`s play of the $1 Million guaranteed APT Championships Event. It recorded a strong 1,352-entry field across 18 starting flights, which helped to collect a guarantee-busting $1.026 Million prize pool. After seven and a half hours of play, Natural8 Ambassador and Taiwanese Pro Pete Chen playing under the online moniker ‘TurboPete’ was named the champion. He pocketed a six-figure score worth $113.84K after a three-way FT deal, an APT Championship Trophy and APT Championship Ring. This happens to be Chen’s second time winning a featured online title at the APT. He had championed the Mini Main Event at the inaugural online series.

This was also Chen`s second title victory at this series to go with an incredibly long list of final table appearances. He had previously won Event #86 High Roller Deep Stack on June 19 for $11.79K. The runner-up ‘SpicyChknSangy’ booked the biggest prize of the day worth $139.01K, courtesy the deal. The player also took third place in Event #222 High Roller Deep Stack for $12.57K. The third-place finisher ‘Donsky10’ received $107.44K.

In the inaugural APT Online series, Michael Kim Falcon had won this event for $97.44K.

Another side attraction on Sunday was the $40K GTD PLO Championships. 221 runners registered for the $400 buy-in event, accruing $83,096 in the prize pool, more than double the posted guarantee. Walking away with the APT trophy was ‘Shining,’ who defeated ‘kif1591’ (runner-up for $12.03K) heads-up to win $16.10K.

The Short Deck Championships registered a field of 143 hopefuls generating a profitable prize pool amounting to $53,768. The finale saw ‘BigBallsButcher’ lock horns with decorated Filipino pro Lester ‘mon$terDad’ Edoc. The latter was chasing his second title, having won Event #59 High Roller Turbo on June 18 and he accomplished the mission for a payday worth $11.08K.

Rounding out the weekend action was the sixth and last Monster Stack event of the series. The event recorded 1,309 entries across 15 flights to fall $1,290 short of its $250K GTD. It was ‘FRD01’ who translated his buy-in into a title victory for a $39,948.13 payday.

The $100K GTD High Roller Deep Stack logged in 249 entries to register a prize pool worth $118.27K. Once the last hand was dealt, it was ‘boomerzoomer’ who had all the chips in play and walked away with the title and the $22.63K top prize.

The $75K GTD High Roller brought in 118 contenders, posting a guarantee-smashing prize pool worth $112.10K. The heads-up clash for the title took place between ‘B00mShakaLaka’ and ‘escobarry.’ The former eventually came on top and won $24.44K, while the latter settled for an $18.59K payday.
