APT Philippines 2015: Julius Malzanini Crowned Main Event Champion, Sahil Agarwal Makes an Impressive 5th Place Finish; Shravan Takes 3rd in Event 13

The final days play at the 2015 APT Philippines Main Event saw an intense heads up match between APT Cebu Main Event winner Jojo Tech and German player Julius Malzanini (cover image), until the latter finally overcame and took down the championship and the $102,600 top prize.

Sahil Agarwal, who had made his way to the final day on a small stack of 83K, put up a great fight and finally busted at 5th place, collected $23,300 in prize money.

The Indian surge at the series continued with a number of Indian`s making it to Day 2 in Event 13 – $770 Monster Stack No Limit Hold’em. Shravan Chhabria made a 3rd place finish, Kunal Patni and Aditya Sushant finished 14th and 18th respectively even as Jasven Saigal put up a fight.

 

$2,200 Main Event Final Day

Germany`s Julius Malzanini Wins Main Event, Sahil Agarwal Finishes 5th for $23,300

Filipino Flo Campomanes was the first final table elimination, ousted by Ian Brion’s . Flo had , and though the flop initially was in his favor, the turn and river went against him and he retired at 8th place taking home $12,300.

Singapore`s Fen Zhao was next, hitting the rails at 7th place, after he was busted by Jojo Tech with $15,100 in prize money. An hour later, Ha Duong got Japanese Yoichi Uesugi in his sights and eliminated him at 6th place for $18,800.

The final day of the Main Event began on a good note for Sahil, who started the final table as the shortest stack. He doubled up through eventual champion Julius Malzanini to take his stack from 83K to 190K. By Level 24, Sahil built up to an impressive 440,000 in chips, but a little while later lost almost 90% of his stack to Ian Brion.

The final hand for Sahil came when he had and Duong held . The board gave out and after a valiant performance; Sahil was out at 5th place for $23,300.

After the break, Malzanini changed gears and after a bout of attacks, he finally eliminated Duong at 4th place for $28,700. Brion followed Duong at 3rd place, albeit for the largest live cash of his career of $40,100.

Heads up play was now between local player Tech and German Malzanini. The battle for supremacy saw a steep struggle between the two, with neither willing to relinquish the slightest advantage. Every time the chip lead shifted, the other wrestled it back.

By Level 28, Malzanini took the lead up past the 4 Million mark, with Tech at just 1 Million. Despite this, Tech put up a tough fight and even managed to win a big pot, moving up to 2 Million in chips. However, fate had other plans and Tech could not claim another APT Main event win, after his victory at the 2015 APT Cebu stop.

On the final hand of the tournament, Tech opened with to 120,000 pre-flop and Malzanini re-raised to 300,000. Tech increased the stakes to 700,000, while Malzanini shoved, only to have Tech make the call!

Tech had the superior pair, but the flop augured well for Malzanini who held . The turn completed the flush for Malzanini and the river simply sealed the deal. Malzanini was crowned champion of the 2015 APT Philippines Main Event, and took home the title and the winning amount of $102,600.

Jojo Tech settled for 2nd place with a consolation of $58,900 in prize money.

Event 13 – $770 Monster Stack NLH

Even as the fight for the Main Event title raged, Event 13 was playing out with many of our Indian players participating.

Shravan Chhabria though, was the only Indian to make it to the final table. He began the final table as the second lead, but when play was down to five players, he slipped a place and finally made 3rd place in the event.

Joining him on Day 2 were fellow countrymen – Kunal Patni, Aditya Sushant and Jasven Saigal.

Kunal and Aditya made it in the money with 14th and 18th place finish for $1,700 and $1,490 respectively however, Jasven failed to make it in the money.

That closes out yet another successful edition of the Asian Poker Tour and a memorable one for Team India! The Asian Poker Tour next travels to Vietnam from May 6 – 13 and the series will be held at The Grand Ho Tram located at the Ho Tram Strip.
