The 2022 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Philippines II, underway at The Grand Wing Casino at Newport World Resorts in Manila, is on the final stretch, with 15 of the 26 scheduled events already in the books.

The other headline event after the Main Event, the ₱10 Million (~$175,270) GTD Championships Event, is grabbing all the eyeballs at the festival. The first starting flight played out on Wednesday, September 14, and the last remaining flight is close to wrapping up. Running alongside the Championships Event, a host of side events crowned champions in the last two days.

After Jasven Saigal brought Team India its first trophy in the series in Event #13: 22K NLHE, the former APT Main Event champion Abhinav Iyer got another title sweat going for the country with a deep run in Event #14: ₱76K High Rollers – Single Day. The WSOP bracelet winner, who cashed eight bracelet events this summer, had picked up his first cash of the series through a 36th place finish in the 55K Main Event for ₱146,700 (₹2.05 Lakhs). He got a better run going in the High Rollers, making it as far as fifth place, winning a paycheque of ₱171,900 (₹2.39 Lakhs).

Taiwan’s Fang Po Wen overcame the 34-strong entry field to walk away with the High Rollers title after defeating the 2022 WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event champion David Erquiaga heads-up to bag the top prize of ₱758,900 and his third live title this year!

Erquiaga, who came into the High Rollers fresh from his runner-up finish in the ₱55K Main Event, fell excruciatingly short of the finish line yet again, netting ₱658,900 in second place, courtesy of a heads-up deal. Nevertheless, Erquiaga’s two close finishes have catapulted him to the top of the POS race with 1,096.64 points. Behind him are Martijn Gerrits (744.38 points) and Hernan Villa (743.44 points).

The APT tweeted about the event.

Currently, all the eyeballs are on the ₱82,500 (~$1,440) buy-in Championships Event! The first of the two starting flights is already in the books, and Day 1B is almost nearing the end.

Day 1A brought in 79 entrants, and 35 among them survived the first hurdle. Australia’s Jayden Zalac (254,500) carried the most massive stack to Day 2.

From India, two top pros, Kunal Patni (175,500) and Abhinav Iyer (157,000), were part of the 35-player surviving field – both making into the top ten chip counts. While Patni is placed seventh in stacks, Iyer bagged the ninth most enormous stack from Day 1A.

In the other side events, Victor Chong (Won Event #11: ₱107,500 High Rollers for ₱1,892,000), Yosuke Nakazawa (Won Event #15: ₱16,500 NLH Single Day for ₱334,500), and Martijn Gerrits (Won Event #12: ₱22K 2-Day Short Deck Championship for ₱189,700) grabbed titles.

Day 2 of the Championships Event will start at 1 PM (local time) on Friday, September 16, and late registrations will remain open for the first two levels of play. The Day 2 action will be live-streamed on a Featured Table live stream.

The other events on the tap for Friday, September 16, are Event #16: Super Deep Stack Turbo (2 PM local time) and Event #17: Deep Stack Hyper Turbo (5 PM local time).

Throwing in a big dollop of glamour and entertainment, the APT will be hosting a Player’s Party later in the day at the Entertainment Area of the Grand Wing Casino!
