The just-started 2022 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam Hanoi has found its first champion in local hero Huy Quang Nguyen (cover image left), who triumphed over the 293-player field in the VND 1 Billion GTD Mystery Bounty to collect VND 325,600,000 (~₹10.93 Lakhs).
Nguyen was one of 69 returning players on Day 2 of the tournament and eliminated five players on the final table, including the eventual runner-up Son Duc Tran to claim the bragging rights. He won another VND 299,900,000 in bounties, making for a total take-home of VND 625,500,000! Along with winning the trophy, Nguyen has taken an early lead in the Player of the Series (POS) standings with 539.84 points.
A total of six Indians, led by Young Gun Shardul Parthasarathi, had made it to Day 2 from the event’s two starting flights. Only two of them, i.e., Vaibhav Sharma and Jasven Saigal made it past the money line. Sharma ran the deepest, cruising into the final table, where he placed seventh for VND 49,960,000. Adding the VND 40,700,000 in bounties, Sharma won VND 90,660,000 (~₹3.04 Lakhs) for his FT finish in the series-opener.
Veteran poker pro Jasven Saigal finished 28th for VND 9,470,000 (~₹31,772) (excluding the bounties).
The generous 293 entry field ensured that the event crushed its VND 1 Billion guarantee, generating a juicy VND 1,394,680,000 prize pool with a corresponding VND 879,000,000 in the bounty pool.
Day 2 ran for a lengthy 12 hours before the dust settled. The money bubble burst with the elimination of Do Van Phuong, who found his ace-queen quashed by Do Kwan Nam’s ace-jack that spiked a jack on the flop.
Start-of-day chip leader Dang Duy Thanh (19th for VND 13,630,000) and Sang Van Nguyen (17th for VND 16,360,000) were among the notables who fell on Day 2.
