With the weekend approaching, action has picked up at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam that has come visiting the Pro Poker Club for the third time this year. November 7 saw the first of three starting heats, i.e., Day 1A, of the VND 22 Million (~₹67,615) buy-in, Main Event VND 8 Billion GTD (~₹2.45 Crores) play out amid a field of 50 entries. After nine levels of play, only 21 of them could make it to Day 2, and leading the pack is Asian circuit regular, Australia’s Nguyen Duc Bien (125,000).
After a rousing opening for the Indian contingent at the Monster Stack 1, expectations were riding high on another strong turnout from Team India, and they delivered! All said and done, a total of six Indians succeeded in making the cut for Day 2 – a number that forms approximately 29% of the surviving field!
Leading from the front is UK-based pro Yasheel Doddanavar, a name that has been making a lot of noise on the live felts. He rose to prominence during his maiden trip to the WSOP this summer, as he came back with an impressive four scores. He has been a consistent winner on the Asian circuit as well. Six months after finishing runner-up in the APT Philippines High Rollers 2, Doddanavar picked up that elusive live trophy in the WPT India ₹100K High Roller last month – an achievement that awarded him with a personal-best ₹34.64 Lakhs cash prize. On Day 1A, Doddanavar bagged a stack of 85,000 – that happens to be the fifth-biggest stack heading into Day 2.
Also carrying a sizeable stack to Day 2 is Vivek Rughani. The talented Indian pro, who has a penchant for sharing motivational quotes on social media, had quite the run at the BPT last month. Rughani posted three scores at the BPT comeback series, his deepest run being his fourth-place finish at the 100K High Roller that earned him ₹13.13 Lakhs. He carries a stack of 79,400 to Day 2.
The DPT Colossus SHR Series 50K Warm-Up champion Meherzad Munsaf (72,900), Sahil Chuttani (46,700), PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh (44,900) and Maria Kirloskar (32,300) are the other Indians advancing to Day 2.
